6.30 alarm, I already wasn’t a happy bunny. Very tired and extremely peed off about not sleeping well again. Not sure how my legs and mind were going to carry me up that very large rock I could see whilst eating a heep of breakfast again. I looked like I’d been punched in the face my eyes were so puffy and Ellie was struggling to walk her quads we so tight. What a great start!
Tummy update: tummy’s still strong no worrying rush for the bathroom just yet!
Full belly from breakfast and a trek up to Ella’s Rock which is apparently a good 4-5hour hike. Which starts by us having to walk along the train tracks for the first hour of the hike. Ummm yeah okay, not sure any of the walks in Britain would start like this haha, no health and safety needed in Sri Lanka - you walk the train tracks at your own risk. But everyone seems to do it so surely it’s safe?!
Walking the tracks, lots of make shift huts selling coconuts and water, so very random and Asian!
Finally after following a bloggers instruction that we screen shot we found the exit off the tracks and over a bridge into the farm land and rickety walk around their crops to the hibiscus tree forest (sounds like I’m in bloody narnia or something, but it’s real!) up lots hills using the roots as steps and following a guide up ahead we got to almost the top when we hit the fog. Oh bloody hell now it was really like narnia or some very spooky thriller movie, you could see the fog and clouds slithering through the trees all around you. So different to ten minutes ago when we had sunshine. This could also only mean one thing.... the view was going to be a big fat nothing.
We carried on anyways and our suspicions were correct, a rock on the edge with a hole lot of fog. A creepy wooden hut in amongst the trees at the top with some locals making very fresh juice with mangos and oranges, etc. Rather them than me carry that up to the top!
We didn’t hang around before we headed back down, could do much about the fog and rain. There’s always plenty more mountains for us to climb with views I’m sure of it!
Going down seemed harder on the slippery mud and rocks and it bloody hurt your knees. Low and behold the sun is trying to make an appearance, typical!
We could see so much damage to the forest from the arson attack a few months back, things were starting to grow back but it’s caused so much damage to all the trees.
Got back down to the train tracks a different way through the tea plantations and a big fat struggle to get motivated and walk back to town, Ellie had to lead my legs wouldn’t take me as fast as I wanted to go. I think the walk yesterday and the lack of sleep is taking its toll.
A cheeky fresh fruit smoothie for lunch and a well deserved chill before dinner tonight. We FaceTimed and showered, watched the enormous rain storm from the veranda and went out for din dins and more delicious Sri Lankan food!
We couldn’t fit any more booze into our tummies so a strawberry milkshake for afters and a little later night than usual up to the guesthouse, trying to get through the fog that was slithering down through the street - very eary.
