Bloody hot last night sleeping in the apartment, mum was cold so we turned the heating up slightly but my god I think we turned up TOO much! bloody boiling! We weren't long messing around and getting ready to go out as we wanted to be out before the car had to be paid for which was 9AM and we were going further a field today to the Fairies Valley to the Clay Castle.
Got to the car, parked it in one of the roads last night, I had a ticket with a photo of the car on the windscreen. GREAT. Saying in Romanian that I hadn't paid for the space, so I took it to the rental office which was conveniently around the corner. The guy which got me to the car yesterday told me that it was a warning and not to worry about it. So I thought fine, he was the one that told me the parking was free between 7PM - 9AM. In fact the piece of paper said 6PM - 8AM. Wonderful! Now I was worried about the bloody fee because it could be between 150-200GBP.
Anyways we set off for the fairies valley, roughly the same direction as yesterday but a different road, and then soon a very different direction but the scenery just as beautiful if not more stunning! We followed the Transylvanian Alps on the left side of me, going through little towns which all seemed to look the same with the beige and cream or red buildings and mostly all of them had all their shutters down on the windows, with no one walking around or going anywhere so they were a littler eery. One funny thing though was on top of the electrical posts in one village were huge nests and every single one of them were occupied by stalks and all looked to have a baby stalk in them as well. Well what a sight we had never seen before haha!
Wasn't sure of the speed limit and where the cameras were as there were CCTVs everywhere so I didn't know what was speeding or checking in on us. We stopped in a town for breakfast and for a break from driving for me. Bloody LOVELY omelette in the cafe we stopped at, a village called Fagaras. sat in the sunshine again with a straw in our latte, before long we were back on the road to the Fairies Valley.
After almost an hour and mum not falling asleep in the back (very shocked) and we arrived to the valley of the fairies. I thought that this was a castle / building that had been there for a while as in centuries but it seemed it was a tourist village and most of it had been built for that purpose. The clay castle was beautiful to see but it wasn't open to go inside and there was just a little cafe that didn't serve ice cream so we had a nosey around and went and sat by the river to make a plan on where we were going to go on the way back because a long day of driving to not do anything or go anywhere wasn't the plan.
Dogs here by the way are very docile and chilled, well behaved and street save, no one has them on leads and they all look both ways before they cross the road wherever we have seen them haha.
So instead of us driving directly the same way back and going on the main road (only one or two lanes) we decided to go inwards towards the mountains and loop around the little villages that we were assuming would be derelict. I found a weaving mill that was operating and looked open on Google Maps for us to visit so we headed there and by now mum was ready for a nap.
There was just no one about aside for the odd farmer in the field and lovely scenery, very relaxing and pleasant to drive! We did pass by a Romanian Gypsy on their horse and cart but that just made it feel like we were going down the carriage way in Pontypool haha.
So the weaving mill was outside of a village called Lisa, and we missed the turning off the little road so Google Maps redirected me down another side road which seemed fine until I went over a little bridge and the road turned to mud and we ended up in a grass field, haha! nope, this isn't the way to go lets do a U turn! Lovely car and I have taken it off road twice in two days lol.
the weaving mill was a little weird on first look just parking in front of a house with carpets outside drying off and kid in her pyjamas reading her book. A little hut to the side we headed over there and around the back of the house where we could see carpets hanging up and a wooden hut, an old man came out who didn't speak english and so sent his wife out to speak with us. She spoke a little better english and took us on a bit of a tour. The weaving mill was over 100 years old and had been in her family since the beginning with her grandfather.
It was pretty cool to see how they used water and the wheel to wash the carpets naturally and dry them off, the machines were huge where they processed the wool into fine thread, very expensive I imagine to fix considering they were so old!
After looking around and having to pay her for us seeing the mill we headed off through all the derelict villages with nobody about again and through a quieter road throughout the crop fields and then back to Braşov not before taking a wrong turn and my eyes hurting from driving for so long, I did get a little aggy but then we went to Lidl to get some food as we planned to stay in tonight. Lidl was like being at home, the Romanian gypsys in their pyjamas walked in and barged passed everyone just like our Irish gypsys! We pulled up and parked, I pulled up and parked a little bit out of the main streets and made sure I read the signs today as opposed to listening to the man so I wouldn't get the parking paid right. We didn't go into the house straight away because the sun was still out and we couldn't waste sunlight haha so two beers in the square whilst we melted the rock hard butter slightly aswell. Very peaceful apart from the loud Englishman sat on the side of us, annoying London accent.
When the sun was gone we headed back for our night in with wine we bought from the wine bar last night and cheese, ham, nibbles etc. lovely and chilled and looked at booking up our next trip, Albania! Haha.
Absolutely shattered I sat on the bed to watch television with mum and dad and woke up at 1am lying on my back with a dry mouth, back is going to hurt tomorrow as my legs were dangling off the bed in awkward position.
