Our time had finished in Eger with our train journey pending back to Budapest for two days. The sun had also come out! The town looked very different on a sunny day! We decided to walk (shock) down to the train station because it was straight down the river side and very pleasant. My rough on the cases or walking. We had to walk over the train tracks, haha no health and safety around here it’s just not a thing!
The train came a little after we got our tickets and we had a double decker! How exciting, so we sat upstairs of course! Dad lugged the cases up :(
It was a pleasant 2 hour train ride, no animals in the fields anywhere we had noticed. And this wasn’t just this train ride this was evrywhere we had been, how bizzare!
The train pulled into the station we knew where we were going this time as it was the same hotel. Only we couldn’t get our room so we dumped the bags didn’t change because my god was it bitter wind and cold but sunny when we got there a very different climate to a week ago! Colder not hotter!
We walked up to the Danube shoes on the river bank which was very eery and sad. We came across lots of bars and restaurants aswell, walking everywhere we seemed to have passed the time fairly quickly without realising. We went back to the hotel changed and had a “whiff” then we went back out to the tapas bar and another place next door for food and drink, wine and beer was 1/3 extra of the price here to Eger. Not expensive but still annoying when you have had it cheaper! The tapas was nice, a little cold and the service wasn’t great they seem to take forever with everything in this country. Am I just being spoilt in Dubai? I’m pretty sure it was an exceptionally long time to wait for drinks and food somethings you wonder if they’ve gone to dig the potatoes up of milk the cow for cheese.
We went into the wine bar afterwards for a sweet wine, we have taken a random liking to the sweet white wine and red at that but can’t seem to find it outside of the Eger wine cellars! Tired and defeated we went back and chilled.
Oh! We had an ice cream too, and it was delicious! We are true Hungarians now haha!
Back on the skinny hospital bed, waking up as I turn in case of falling off. Mum and dad seemed to have slept well, no surprise for dad but mum was snoring her head off this morning. It’s nice to just lay in bed, we had a slow start today, we were going to Szechenyi Thermal Spa, the grand Spa without and R. We strolled through the streets up, it’s such a nice city with great buildings a cute little cafe we found for breakfast, mum had two croissants and dad and I had eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. The hero’s square was grand and huge! The spa was pretty insane also! We had booked with a cabin which we found out meant a cabin to change in and keep our things instead of a locker. How it is in the photos on the famous outside pool. Another one with a whirlpool we found, 38-40 degrees with the sun on you it was boiling hot!! We went inside to the other baths there were easily 15 other thermal pools to sit in, with varied shapes and sizes and temperatures 30-34. Saunas dotted everywhere the one we went in was HOT!! Then we went in the plunge pool after proud to say we went straight in with no dordalling and straight to shoulder level for around 5 minutes. Could have kept doing it’s doing something good for you! For sure! Me and mum went outside but dad went into the steam room, which he ended up being in for almost 1.5 hours!!! Not so sure that’s how it should be or if that’s good for you.
We had a beer on the deck chair after I did some photos for memory. Then me and dad went back in the other outdoor pool with the whirlpool and mum bathed in the sun.
AfterwRds all pruned and wrinkled we got changed and walked to find a bar for drinks, which we did and nice it was of that with some fire burners. English couples sat next to us had just arrived and said that the Pope was arriving tomorrow which now explains all the huge set ups of stages and televisions and security everywhere today; we wouldn’t have known because as we know everything is in Hungarian and nothing in English.
We went to Mazel Tov for dinner. It was delicious!!! Such a lovely setting good find Dad! Also found this I realised before and pinned it on google maps. Lovely setting and live music, we must have got in at a good time because when we left they were queuing out the door and round the corner to get in!!
Our divino wine bar for the end of night drinks, mum had a baileys as ‘was up to there with wine’ there was a live band on called dynamite dudes there were funky and played chelo, singing jazz! Haha cost us £1.50 for wine and jazz here in Budapest, £50 each in NYC!
Such a good day, last of the wines before we depart tomorrow.
The day after I’m woke up, must have burnt her eye lids and underneath them she couldn’t open her eyes and they were super puffy all around them, puffer fish mum “partying on the 2nd floor” haha!!
No tears this time at the airport, we went right up to boarding as I was boarding 20 minutes after them down the corridor and 7 weeks until I’m home!
What a fab trip with fab company! ( as always)
