We stayed back at the Phanyro hotel last night, it's was $5 more because it's Chinese New Year! What a rip off. Haha. Even though it's still only $15 for cable tv, hot shower, wifi and a comfy bed. This time around we had soft pillows so it was a struggle getting up out of bed this morning!
The bus was at7am from the main road so we made our way to the greenview restaurant and waited for the guy to come and collect us. This minibus wasn't the typical minivan we have been cramped into like sardines for the passed couple of trips. It was a big transit minibus with individual seats and we had seat numbers so it was a really nice ride. The roads were empty because of the new year and most shops and garages being closed for a few days.
But after two hours of fast driving and our first put stop for a toilet break, they soon found someone desperate to get to Phnom Penh so they wedged a plastic chair in the little isle between me and a lady for a guy to perch his arse down. There was no way I was being squished so I made it clear where my space was. It wasn't anywhere near as cramped as it would be in little minivan like we usually would be but I still wasn't going to let it happen. After an hour or so someone got off so he moved thank god.
Arriving in Phnom Penh before schedule because the roads were quieter than usual was a bonus! We stopped fairly close to our hotel and tuk tuk drivers try to get $4 and even $10 off us for a 1km ride so we told ten to stick and started walking off until they come round to the idea of $2, even that's was too much!!
We couldn't check in to our room until 1pm, so we went for lunch around the corner, unlucky us there were monkeys about the place pinching the food they put out for their pray stands. The worry was that they were getting pretty close and our good was coming out soon, the waiters were prodding them with a metal stick and they would run away but they kept coming back for a good 15-20 minutes and they missed the one sneaking up on a lady and taking her omelette, she went to prod it or 'shoo' it away and it went for her with claws... Rabie claws!! I'm crapping my pants and super excited to get out of the restaurant by now!
We went and found the super market that Sarah and Mike recommended for us to find for some PROPER CADBURY CHOCOLATE! So we took the walk and found it! Excitedly bought the chocolate rushed back to check in at the hotel before it completely melted!
The room was lovely, small but we had tv hot shower and wifi with a super comfy bed and a WINDOW! What a novelty that is in Phnom Penh!
Only trust us to have a window that the lock is broken on, we had steel bars and mosquito net shutters but the monkeys that were perched on the roof in front of us are pretty smart so if they wanted to come in they would!
Well they spotted the white people didn't they so we crapped our pants, shut the curtains and packed our stuff into our bags; quickly moved the rucksacks into the bathroom and our little bags. By this time the monkeys were sat underneath our window staring up at it. Now I wanted to cry and run out of the room! We turned the tele off so there was no noise (it's like we were hiding from our enemies not bloody monkeys!)
Scott had a plan though, he would run in the bathroom and hold the door shut whilst I went downstairs to get someone - I'll do the unsafe part running away from the monkeys probably egging them on to run after me whilst he will stay safe in the bathroom. What an absolute gentleman.
We kept poking our noses through the curtains to see where they were and after about half an hour they did decide to disperse a little and start picking fleas off one another so we managed to turn the tele volume up so that we could actually hear it!
We went for food to the Irish bar because Scott was craving the steak and Guinness pie after all the food talk yesterday! We had a few beers to celebrate our time in Cambodia had come to an end... (Nah, that's just an excuse to have a drink!)
We went to the fish bar afterwards where you could have a drink at a table but with fish spa underneath you, it was pretty cool but a few times I did nearly spill my drink because the fish seen to always know the most ticklish part of your foot and nibble away at it more than anywhere else on your feet.
Cambodia has been fab! It's our comfort blanket of south east Asia, we don't want to leave! It's beautiful here and each town and city has a different feel about it; the people are lovely and the food is great!! We are going to miss this place terribly, Vietnam has a big competition!
