Finally, we had a good night sleep last night! As soon as my head hit the pillow I was zonked!
Despite having to get up early for our 8am bus we still feel pretty fresh!
First day in two weeks without Sarah and Mike, it's quiet!
We bought two breakfasts today, one for the bus ride because the service shack stations are expensive and the food looks awful.
It's the norm now to get in a minivan for ten people and have 16 in it. We were in the very back of the minivan cramped up like sardines, It was boiling hot, the air con wouldn't reach to us in the back, the sun was blaring on me and I was starting to get claustrophobic. Thank god for the pit stop because I think I may have fainted pretty soon.
The second part of the journey got even more bumpier than before, the roads are very much still in progress and mainly mud, sand and stones. The road going into Sen Monorom were even worse, we were wheel spinning up the hills and the stones were eventually turning into rocks and boulders. Their 'A' roads are pretty shabby, god help them in rainy season, it must be a mud bath around here!
The minivan dropped us off at the local market, it was only a short distance from the hotel so we decided to hike it; it's not as hot here and there is a cool breeze which is very inviting! We are up in the hills a fair bit though I think! Although I'm not by all means saying it's cold, it's probably 27-30 rather than 35 degrees!
We arrived at the bungalows, it looked pretty nice! Thankfully they had a spare room because we didn't book anything. Hot shower, tv, decent wifi and a comfy bed - not bad for $8 a night!
We rented a moped out, it was in cracking condition! And bright yellow! Lurvely.
We took a ride around town... That took us 5 minutes. Yeah, Sen Monorom isn't a big town. There are only about 5-6 roads that have Tarmac on them, or concrete should I say. We drove around the lake, we found out that we couldn't go in it. So we grabbed some food from a little restaurant that cooked on a stall outside, we went to the bank to change a dollar bill into smaller notes. It was weird, a woman greeted me and asked me what I wanted, then told me to sit down, there were rows of seats facing the tills that all had high breakfast table swivel chairs at them. These people at the tills took forever!! Scott came in all surprised "they locked the bloody bike up! Put a chain around the wheel mind!" Haha. Security guards on top form here! Instead of waiting for the woman to call me to go up and sit at the till I just got up and asked them when I could change the dollar bill, they all looked astonished, didn't know what to do, haha!
Too late in the afternoon to go waterfall hunting, we headed back to the bungalow. It's really quiet here again, not many people living about the place. Again everyone knows everyone here!
Forgot to point out... We spoke to our tour guide in Ban Lung about malaria. He said he has had it a few times. All he does is go to the doctors get a blood test and have a tablet, he's fine in two or three days! Scott went into a pharmacy here and asked to get some malaria tablets and they whopped out the one if you actually have it. So all this hoohaa about us catching malaria and It's not so bad after all. Cheryl Cole got it, all she wanted was attention. I'm pretty sure she wasn't dieing, she just wanted the TLC and line light on her. These Asians they know how to cope properly!
