Boy did we feel fragile this morning! Especially after just 3 and a half hours sleep! We managed to somehow get our bags together, in the process we woke half the dorm room up aswell I think!
We couldn't walk in the heat with our bags feeling worse for wear down the hill to the pier so we grabbed a tuk tuk for $1.
There were loads of backpackers sat on the pier, majority were looking a little worse for wear, everyone there including us looked like we had been hit with a tonne of bricks. Needing a good scrub and to brush our hair.
Our ferry was a massive old wooden fishing boat converted into a ferry with seats around the outside and a table in the middle, how it set off I don't know! The engine sounded like it was going to fall off and the amount of people the climbed aboard the wooden plank balancing on the boat and pier was loads. The pile of bags at the front of the boat just gradually kept getting bigger and bigger.
We both felt ill sat on there, the sea was ruff this morning because that's just our luck! Within 5 minutes of taking off Scott had to go to the back of the boat to be sick, the guy aboard was handing out sickness motion tablets to everyone left right and centre!
I had a comfy spot on the outside bench leaning up against the life jackets that were strapped along the outside of the boat, everyone was using them to lie on. Some people got in some shapes lying on the floor. I did feel a little ill, the fact that he had to keep turning the engine down because the boat was rocking so badly over the waves made everyone panic and feel even worse.
It occurred to me, if Scott is hanging over tee she what if he falls in because there were any barriers at the back end, well afterwards he did say that he was on his hands and knees wreching and some points the water did come up over the back of the boat and there could have been a good possibility that he might have fallen off the boat! Haha.
I had a nap at the front and tried not to slap the American 'I think I'm a gangster hippy that doesn't wear underwear and never washes and I live in Cambodia, drive a retro banger moped and never wear a helmet because BAAM I can give an officer a dollar to get off my back, and I know the way of the world because I think in awesome' type of guy, he was full of s***ty tattoos on his neck he had a captain America badge, no your not me. America mate. He was wearing a life jacket think he thought he was Tarzan at one point trying to grab onto all the beams in the ceiling. I had to put my head phones in before I screamed, so many people thought the same you tell on everyone's face, not just me and my scowl this time, there were around 30 others too!
When we were approaching Koh Rong there were a lot of dark clouds but the sun was somehow shining through on just the beach, it made it look so pretty, the water was crystal blue and the sand was white powder, lots of little shacks across the sea front on the beach and you could spot the odd bungalow up in the hills. It looked so peaceful, we were excited about the fact that there aren't any cars or roads on the island, if you want to get to another beach you have to either take the trek over the jungle or get a taxi boat. There are no ATMs and the electricity is only on between 8am-11am and 1.30pm-2.30am in some places if your lucky. It's not very good either the power strength is poor.
Scott still feeling I'll wasn't enjoying the truck across the beach and didn't really take much of the beauty in. Our bungalows are up a construction lane where there are loads of wooden bungalows being built.
We arrived not knowing who was in charge, this foreign man came out of the shower and strolled down to the reception, he could hardly speak. He was so spaced out that trying to string a sentence together was difficult. I had to ask if there was a key anywhere to these little bungalows built into the mountain side. We had the top one out of about 7 bungalows, they were entirely made of wood and the roof was made of palmtrees leaves. It was so cute! It's really tiny with a bed in the corner and a little space to put our bags. We have a hammock and a really comfy chair out on the balcony looking over the sea. For $10 each a night it's pretty damn good, and that price is the cheapest on the beach other than shabby dorm rooms for $7 but we have heard horror stories of those.
Scott immediately fell asleep on the bed whilst I had a cold but refreshing shower at the bottom of the hill and took advantage of the hammock; It was so comfortable!
We went for a walk down the beach and a bite to eat. The sand was gorgeous, it's a pretty small beach with some make shift wooden shacks along the stretch. Lots of little local fishing boats docked up in amongst the two crooked piers. Scott couldn't resist but ask to have a few kick ups with a Cambodian man that had a football. Safe to say Scott has definitely lost his touch after two months of no football!
We walked around to another beach through the forest, there were tree houses built amongst the palm trees that had two stories. The bathroom was below the bedroom, they were $45 per night though so that idea was knocked out of the window!
Back to the room to chill out a little, Sarah and Mike had checked in to the bungalows aswell so we were chatting for a while and went out for food this evening together.
There aren't many lights anywhere so a Cambodian guy came up to our bungalow and started wiring up a light to hang from our bungalow that would shine down on the path. Well uncle terry would have had a fit the way he was wiring it up, putting the wire in his mouth to strip the casing off and slicing it with a knife, it's fab! He was balancing on the ledge of our balcony reaching over to hang a light, how he didn't fall to the 20 foot drop below I don't know!
Food was so good, we had BBQ on the beach! Chicken skewers, FLUFFY jacket potato and salad! Yummy.
Going on a snorkelling and fishing trip tomorrow and to see the bio luminous plankton in the evening!
