What a waste of a day! We cancelled our tour because of the supposed cyclone and it hasn't rained since breakfast time. The tropical low is going to go south of Efate. We spent the day in Vila shopping for souvenirs, and found some really nice mementos. We started the day posting the darn postcards we bought and wrote so long ago! You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find an international stamp here, and after our Bali postcards having still not arrived 2 years later, we didn't trust leaving them with reception. So anyway, they're finally on their way.
After that, we went to the chemist to get something for Shiann's severe stomach cramps which she is still getting. The pharmacist gave her buscopan and said she wouldn't need the maxalon anymore. She promptly vomited the buscopan up! Eventually we managed to get one down and it stayed down, yay!!
We wandered around some of the markets and shops and the kids bought some stuff. Shiann bought a couple of sarongs so she can be like her mummy :) and Chase bought a sling shot...for souvenir only and never to be used! David and I got a Tusker shirt each and I got a purple Tusker stubby holder :D
We had lunch at the Anchor Inn, which is part of the yacht club. They've got a big wall of signatures there and we all signed it. After lunch, more shopping. David and I found some beautiful wood carvings to adorn our verandah, Shiann bought some gifts for a friend and some more mementos for herself.
We wandered down to the outdoor market, which goes around the clock from Monday morning until lunchtime on Saturday and is mostly fruit and vegetables. Chase finally bought himself a drinking coconut, he's been nagging us for days!
It was around 1pm by this time and Shiann was really exhausted from the busy morning, so we caught a minibus home. She visited 5 different public toilets today. I think that's a record for her. We got back to the hotel and she was asleep about 3 minutes later. She slept for about 2 hours while Chase played ds games, David went in search of decent beer (he came home with Pure Blondes) and I checked emails, Facebook and cyclone updates.
Chase eventually went for a swim with his NZ mate Sam and when Shiann woke up, we went for a swim. David went back downtown to book our round island trip for tomorrow. We're going rain hail or shine! (unless it really is a cyclone!)
Tonight we have the Melanesian feast which I'm really looking forward to. It should be really yummy.
