Day 668, 1 Apr '16, Micropia, Dutch Resistance Museum, Memorial at Hollandsche Schouwburg Theatre.
We pick up Luca from his other house tonight, so today was a last ditch effort to see some final museums together. A stunning day weather wise and there were people everywhere - seemed to be a 50/50 split between Hens' and Stag events and massive school groups. Not entirely sure which were the most irritating, but the trams and streets were full to overflowing. Micropia, our first stop, hadn't even been on our radar until we walked past it on the way to dinner the other night. Realistically, how interesting could a museum about germs be. Well in Amsterdam - pretty interesting as it turns out. From there it was just over the road to the Plancius building (where we went for dinner at Restaurant Plancius) and the Dutch Resistance Museum. Suffice it to say, life was grim during WWII. We finished our museum marathon at the Hollandsche Schouwburg theatre which now contains a memorial wall with the surnames of Dutch jews processed through the theatre. Very sad and touching place to visit - and our history buckets are all full up. We have learned a lot, seen some superb art and enjoyed amazing architecture roaming about Amsterdam with our museumkaarts... and 'spent' around €600 in entry fees. Well worth the €59 investment each in a museumkaart. We wandered home via the Waterlooplein flea market which was very good today - even picked up a little white M&S jacket for only €3 off a clothes stall... it is set to become my new 'upgrade' jacket for wearing to airports. Fingers crossed!
