Day 659, 23 Mar '16, Waterlooplein, Albert Cuyp Market (flower stall pictured), Diamond Museum, Stedelijk (modern art) Gallery
We headed out relatively early with Luca and took our time strolling around Waterlooplein flea market - Some stalls were still setting up at 10.30 am, so lucky we didn't get carried away heading out too early. It is time to do a bit of restocking due to general wear and tear so bought some whiz bang cotton sox for James. Onto a tram and off to Albert Cuyp again - Wednesday now (vs. Monday) so a lot more stalls including one of the nicest bakery stalls ever and my all-time fave stall for sate kip (that's sate chicken in Dutch). We tucked into some skewers in sauce then shared a roll with spicy chicken, lettuce and more sate - amazing lunch for only €5 between us. After the spice we shared a mango, coconut smoothie, bought some veges and found a cheap and cheerful windbreaker for James (only €5) and eventually headed home. We left Luca for a rest and hit the museums in the afternoon for a couple of hours - the Stedelijk modern art including some Van Gogh and other favourites and then the Diamond museum. On the way home we tootled through the Flower Market and there are 3-4 cheese shops there that do constant tastings. Who would have thought coconut cheese was even possible - let alone yummy! Mañana? The Bags & Purses Museum and the Willet museum (based in a stunning canal house).
