Day 667, 31 Mar '16, Ten Kate & Albert Cuyp Markets or as it was also known... Rest Day! Scurvy is setting in as we've been too busy to actually go and buy fruit and veges. Today we remedied the situation and limited ourselves to a supplies outing. Ten Kate is our favourite "fresh" market and we splurged at the €1/bag stall. We don't say this often (ever?) but it was cheaper than Spain (our spiritual home). We ended up with 5 pomegranates, 2kg mandies, 2 kg apples, 2 kg kiwifruit and a kilo of carrots for the grand total of €5. Bargain! And heavy... unbelievably heavy. Chose some cheese and some muesli, grapes and mushrooms and it was back on the tram. Thankfully a short walk from the tram stop to home and we unloaded the booty before heading off to the "fun" market - Albert Cuyp. 'Tis here that Bennie's Chicken resides and we had lunch - fresh bread roll, lettuce, hot spicy chicken, satay sauce... also €5 between us. We met a couple from India who were in Amsterdam for 3 days and as is usually the case discovered they could afford to eat on their last day. We also saw a washing machine being hoist-delivered with brute strength to a top floor apartment - huge round of applause from the market-goers when it got there safely. Will definitely be back here again. Today's picture? It's our bargain €5 bunch of flowers from the other day coming into bloom. Yes - you could be forgiven for thinking that a bunch of €5 notes would be all you'd need in Amsterdam. Actually - you're not far wrong!
