Day 567, 31 Dec '15, New Year's Eve 2015 - Valletta! 50,000 people they said. Leave the car at home, they said. Risk never getting home again by relying on buses, they said. Naaah! Leave home at midday, have lunch at our favourite cheap eats cafe Dolceria Croce Bonaci (baked rice, vege omelette, salmon pie and two lattes - €10). Then we had a movie marathon - finally got to see Spectre, the latest James Bond movie and also Starwars, The Force Awakens. Super comfy seats and about A$38 in total for both of us. Given that one ticket to a movie in Sydney these days is around A$22/adult - you can understand why we haven't been to an actual movie since 2012 (Skyfall in Mayfair, London when it was included in the London Pass). Such good fun to see these movies on the big screen. And it filled in the day incredibly. We finished at about 8.30 pm then hit Cafe Jubilee to have dinner (we never queue... but this place is so good and inexpensive... and the city was packed... so we queued for about 40 minutes). Worth it though and by the time we left at 10.30 pm or so, there were still six groups waiting for a table. We headed to St George's square for the free concert. All good. Then along to the Upper Barraka Gardens to see the fireworks over the Grand Harbour. Just us and a 1000 odd people in a not particularly good spot for fireworks. Darn. Saw a few in the distance and the ships in the Grand Harbour honked their horns. Bring on 2016! Back in the car and home by 1 am. We try to never listen to what 'they' say. (PS - have a very short list of "Things We Miss About Sydney" - Thai food, Indian Food and, as it turns out, NY Fireworks on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Still, not enough to get us back anytime soon). In just a week we're off to Paris and we have 3 solid days of Malta Pass sightseeing to fit in before then. Happy New Year!
