Day 566, 30 Dec '15, Ta'Qali Crafts/Valletta Walking Tour. We spent a couple of hours this morning strolling about this artisan craft village. Obviously a lot of tourist tat and we have a sneaking suspicion that not all the silver filigree was actually hand-made (and certainly not in Malta). But still fun. Highlight of the jaunt was seeing glass blowing at the Mdina Glassworks. Compared to the other glass manufacturers this stuff is a cut above. Home for lunch and a feets up then back into the car for the 20 minute drive into Valletta. We booked this free walking tour as soon as we knew we were coming to Malta. Initially disappointed it wasn't til the 30th - but as it turns out we've had fun walking about Valletta on our own since we arrived. The free tour was, however, still excellent and the guide pointed out several things we've walked past over and over again and not noticed. For instance the punishment corner where people where hung, disciplined etc, prior to being turfed out of Malta. Also a hook in the wall (right next to our fave cheap eat cafe). If a sailor could wiggle through it, then it was a sign he would receive a promotion - even Nelson's done it. A great walking tour and home by 7 pm. Getting a good rest tonight - tomorrow, New Year's Eve, is going to be a big day.
