Early start this morning for our "farewell Athens" breakfast! Decided to use the Metro again to the airport so allowed plenty of time. Being Sunday morning was particularly quiet and is obviously the popular choice for transport to the airport as plenty of like-travellers with luggage in tow. After baggage drop with Aegean Airlines had time to spare for bit of duty free shopping, a coffee and met up with Amber and her mum Lyn who we had met at Attalos as they were on our flight. Flight was slightly delayed but was only about 20 minutes in duration. So was no time before we had landed on Mykonos, collected our bags and easily found our friend from Casa Bianca waiting to meet us. So grateful for the pick up as fairly chaotic outside the airport as apparently only 30 taxis on island and not always easy to find!
Casa Bianca is a small family complex at Ornos, about 20 minutes from Mykonos town. Straight away we were gobsmacked by the beauty of the island - those gorgeous pristine white dwellings! But were even more blown away with Casa Bianca - it's just divine! Our room with balcony is superb - so fresh and beautifully decorated with what seems like a brand new bathroom. It looks down over the lovely protected Ornos Beach to one side and Korfos beach leading round to Mykonos town on the other as well as down to the sparkling vibrant blue pool! Eleni and Spyros, the owners and their family can't do enough to make you feel welcome and comfortable. After unpacking and taking in all their suggestions and directions for our next few days we wandered the short distance down to the protected Ornos beach - protection we needed as, since yesterday apparently, it was very windy! Many beautiful little hotels and villas on way down. We weren't the only ones on the beach of course - sun lounges everywhere with table service for drinks and food. Had a sensational Greek salad and grilled Octopus at Konstantis on the beach before exploring the rest of the beach area and the rest of the little town though really blowing a gale on the other side. Decided to avoid paying EUR12 to sit on a sun lounge as we only wanted to stay an hour or so found a spot on the sand down near the waters edge. Absolutely crystal clear water, cool and invigorating. The only thing that spoils the beach somewhat is the hawkers trying to sell you bags, sunglasses etc....all look Somalian or Kenyan! Bit of a shame.
Walked back through town area to purchase a few supplies then took our lives in our hands and walked back to Casa Bianca along the narrow roadway - bit hairy when trucks and buses pass as no footpath. Couldn't resist a swim in that beautiful pool before we showered and changed and walked back to beach for dinner. Much quieter as 8pm far too early for Europeans to be out and about. Had pizza and salad along the beach and once the sun had set and lights of Ornos and neighbouring villas came on the atmosphere was just magical. Many of the restaurants have their tables and lounges set up on the sand. Even had a spectacular fireworks display from our balcony before midnight - I think from nearby Paradise Beach. Really think I love Mykonos!
