Here we are in 'Bangers' Bangkok again! Our original plan was to stay for one night and head up to Chiang Mai on the sleeper train the following day, but we ended up spending 2 nights as we were enjoying ourselves!
This time, we didn't stay on Khoa San road. There was a nice hotel we had seen before just 2 minutes away, which was in a square of shops and restaurants, and a beautiful pond/water feature in the centre.
Those who have been to Bangkok know that it's mostly about the nightlife! We headed into Khoa San for the night and started off with the 'no buckets tonight' idea. We sat down in one of our favourite bars, next to a crazy group of people (one Canadian, one Thai who was just like Mr Chow from The Hangover, one American and one I don't know what she was!) They had overordered their buckets and were already smashed, so gave me one for free. Who was I to turn that down?!
A Swiss guy came and sat with us for a while as he was travelling alone. He seemed nice enough but the language barrier and loud music proved it to be a difficult conversation! He ended up going home as I think he was either too drunk or a bit left out! Bless. We ended up meeting 2 Canadians called Craig & Dayna. They were a really good laugh and got on really well (I made the common mistake of thinking they were a couple but they're just good friends!) We had all decided that tomorrow we'll go to a Ping Pong show together as we'd never done it. We were in for a reeeeal treat!
The next day we ended up feeling quite rough (standard), but luckily our hotel had a lovely pool to chill out in. Bangkok is always very humid and hot, so it felt like heaven! There were 2 girls in the pool WHO WERE SPEAKING SO LOUD THAT WE WANTED TO KILL THEM! They also were completely brainless, some of the awful things they came out with, we couldn't believe our ears!
That night we met up with Craig & Dayna again. We went to a road just off of Khoa San this time as there was a guitarist/singer that they'd seen before performing in a bar and they said he was really good and funny. They weren't lying, he was hilarious but extremely talented on the guitar! After his set, we headed into Khoa San to find a man to do us a deal for a ping pong show. We got taken off by his tuk-tuk and taken to a shady looking backstreet place! Safety in numbers we thought, as there were 4 of us. We obviously got ripped off with the price (classic Thailand) but when we got in there, there were loads of Westerners like us, so we felt a lot better.
Needless to say, there was no ping pong.. there were certainly ping pong balls though! If you've never heard of one of these shows, please Google it as I don't want to go into detail of what goes on! It's part of Thailand though that you've just got to see to believe it.
We headed back into Khoa San after this and played some silly drinking games. We had such a funny night, without being completely wasted!
The next day we were leaving for Chiang Mai in the evening, so we had a whole day to kill. We went to the MBK (huge shopping centre) where I went to a real salon with real hairdressers and real experience, who did my hair for me! A nice set of highlights and a good cut which was well needed. Guess what - no green left!
We are so looking forward to heading back to Chiang Mai as it was one of our favourite places we have been!
