Day 57 - Tsim Sha Tsui- Monday 12th December 2011
We arrived at Mumbai airport and waited for our plane, which was only a couple of hours. We filled the time with Soph sorting the coffee and food in an internet café and me very nearly buying a Frederic constant watch, however after Soph reminded me that we are not on holiday, we are unemployed and travelling I decided against the purchase!!
The plane journey to Hong Kong was only 5 hours and neither of us were tired so we watched 2 films. One was Friends with benefits - pretty good film. The other was called Horrible Bosses - brilliant film. I swear I have never laughed so much on a plane; Soph and I were giggling and trying not to laugh so much that it became even funnier, I think we kept the whole plane awake - not great when its 5am in the morning!! I promise you it's awesome - watch it!! Anyway we arrived at 9.50am in the most modern, clean, top of the range airport… quite literally miles away from what we had left in India. Everything was in English, transport was easy to understand and simple. We walked to the bus stop and boarded the A21 bus to Nathan Road, right in the heart of Hong Kong (it's like England's Oxford Street). The bus was so modern that it had 'Bus connection WIFI' so we checked our email on Sophs IPhone! Once at our stop in Nathan Road, we headed to Miradoor Mansions, our place for a week, to meet the owner Ivan. He was really friendly and had arranged some stuff so we could fix Sophs broken SLR camera, he even took us to the shop!! He also took us to the MTR (Hong Kong's underground system) and helped us buy an Octopus card which is the same as an Oyster card in London. After leaving our camera to be fixed, we just walked around our neighbourhood to get our bearings and familiarise ourselves - then we went back to our place for a shower. Once showered and feeling more refreshed, we headed to Temple Market to grab some food. Now, at home Soph loves an Indian take away but I prefer a chinese - so my thinking was that the food would be right up my street - I love noodles, pork balls, prawn crackers etc etc. Having said that, when we arrived at our chosen street food table I suddenly didn't fancy what was on offer…… chickens feet, pigs trotters or some frog thing!! We ordered what we thought were chicken noodles; I expected some noodles on a plate with diced chicken on top, with a sauce. No, instead I got a bowl filled with oily soup, with noodles and chicken bones!! Soph toughed it out and ate the lot, I picked at the noodles whilst reminiscing about the lovely curries we had left behind in India!! As I was still starving, we headed to a coffee bar that sold hot drinks and chocolate, it looked like the prices were reasonable enough. However, we were tired and hadn't yet worked out the exchange rate so we were thinking in Rupees not HK dollar… ..we ordered a small bar of their own home made chocolate and two coffees which we thought was about £6. But when we got home we realised it was £26!! Oh dear, Hong Kong is going to hurt the budget!! Wallets bruised and stomachs empty we when to bed!!
