Day 58 -Hong Kong Island - Tuesday 13th December 2011
Day 2 in Hong Kong! Soph keeps calling it Honkus Konkus, I guess she's the honkers as I've defiantly got the Konkus!!
We woke up at about 9am but didn't leave our room till 12pm (laziness!). Our room is so small, basically you open the door and immediately in front of you is the shower and then the bed on the floor - that's it! Soph calls it "cute". Once up, we jumped on the MTR to Central station to go window shopping. I think I saw every designer watch ever made and Soph saw some diamond rings for 6,500,000 HK dollar which is about £650,000! Thank god I got her engagement ring (from Epsom market) before we arrived here!! Hong Kong is certainly a shoppers paradise but only if you've got the money.
We then spent the whole day messing around doing Chinese impressions and trying to blend in, however at 5feet 9inches I feel like a giant!! Soph had done a bit of research on the internet the day before and had seen a restaurant called "Luk Yu Tea house", apparently it well known for its atmosphere and good Dim Sum. After a bit of hunting we found it and we were mega hungry so dived straight in. Not learning from the previous night's money mistake, we ended up paying £60 for some rice, noodles and 4 plates of Dim Sum!! They were very nice though - but we really have to start working out the currency!!
Every evening in Kowloon they have the most spectacular light show. All the skyscrapers that face the sea take part. So we settled on the side opposite and watched in awe at the light show for half an hour. After, we walked home and on the way saw numerous people wearing face masks, they really are paranoid about germs here. Every second something is being cleaned or washed and all done with standard face mask attached, it really is a far cry from India!!
