Day 75: Bundaberg to Hervey Bay
I am so excited! We have reached a part of the trip that I have been really looking forward to, it is the reason we chose to take the route we took, heading south so we would be at Hervey Bay at the right time to see the whales.
Tomorrow we are doing just that. The bus is picking us up at 7.25am to ferry us to the boat for breakfast and a morning of whale watching. I can't wait, have I mentioned that I am really excited.
This isn't the first time we have been whale watching and I think that is what's fueling my excitement. Darren and I went years ago and I'm so eager to share the experience with my kids.
Today hasn't been very exciting, but we enjoy days like this every now and then.
The drive from Bundaberg only took about an hour and a half so we had time to catch up with John, the owner of the park in Bundaberg, before we left. We thought he realised we were the East's from the industry but the penny only just dropped this morning. I also assumed the lady in the office was his wife but turns out she is just a casual receptionist. Explains why there was a communication gap.
On arrival at Fraser Lodge Holiday Park and in complete contrast to most parks we have been to, the receptionist called the manager as soon as we arrived so she could welcome us. Sharon welcomed us and thanked us for staying here, then offered us an ensuite site at a reduced rate. Darren and I were a little gobsmacked, but greatly appreciative of the effort they went to to make us feel welcome.
The kids spent the majority of the day at the playground to play in the sand. We took a walk along the beach and got an ice-cream but yet the kids were still eager to return to the sand pit at the park.
That is about it for today's escapades. Having an early night in preparation for our exciting day tomorrow.
