Days 73 & 74: Cania Gorge to Bundaberg
We departed Cania Gorge yesterday but not before doing one more walk. We did a nice quick one to Two Storey cave in the cool of the morning before commencing the 3 hour drive to Bundaberg.
We are staying at Big4 Cane Village Holiday Park and were greeted by the owners John and Jenny on arrival. We chatted to them for a little while before John showed us to our site and helped us back in. I love it when they do the guiding, takes the pressure off me.
After setting up we did a bit of shopping, updating the cutlery and crockery for the van as the stuff we had didn't quite fit the bill, before driving to the neighboring beach suburb of Baggara for dinner.
Today we visited both the Hinkler Hall of Aviation, which is a museum dedicated to Bundaberg resident Bert Hinkler who is famous for being the first person to fly solo from England to Australia, and The Barrell which is the home of Bundaberg ginger beer. We decided to give the Bundy Rum factory a miss as we thought the kids wouldn't get much out of it and we don't drink rum anyway.
The Bert Hinkler museum was great. It is set in the Botanical gardens, we spent about 2 hours in there before having lunch in the cafe, also located in the grounds.
We all really enjoyed the Barrell too. It has a self guided tour that is interactive and explains the process of brewing in a way that the kids enjoy. We bought more soft drink than was probably needed but seems Bundaberg brand is one of the few soft drink brands I enjoy I'm sure it won't go to waste.
Tomorrow we are going to Hervey Bay for a bit of whale watching and 4wding on Fraser Island.
