Today we left Hurricane, UT to move to our next "home base" in Moab. The plan was to head to Bryce Canyon National Park, and just do a "driving tour" since we did so much hiking the past two days. This was a great plan, however as we headed higher in elevation the temperature dropped 49 degrees! That would have been some seriously comfortable hiking, but you have to learn your lessons as you go.
From Hurricane, it was about 100 miles or so to Bryce, a few hours drive. We had some crazy sing alongs in the car, and kept the energy really high! Arriving at the park, we headed right in since we got the National Park Annual Pass, which already paid for itself in a few days. The sights are almost impossible to describe, as we did a 30 mile scenic drive loop and just stopped at the scenic overlooks. The deep red rocks surround you at every view, and every turn. There are some arches that look like a perfect tunnel in the middle of a huge group of mountains and valleys. We always seem to meet friends from Illinois, and pet the dog of a family from Coal City, met Grandma and Grandpa and the granddaugther who were doing a sight seeing tour of their own. We made our sandwiches at one of the stops, loaded back into the car and had to make it to our first "Air BnB" condo in Moab.
The drive to Moab was pretty tough, just because it was isolated, but still we get the 80 MPH speed limit! That helped a bit. The Mom's did some driving, and we finally made it to Moab before sunset. The condo is awesome, with three bedrooms and a quiet little roof deck off the master. Home base for three days of more hiking, a bit of shopping, the Moab Brew Pub that I saw coming in, and some rest from driving!
I'll load pictures soon from today, thanks for reading!
