Hello all:
Day one was mostly driving, but we were able to reach our goal of Fargo, ND! This is great, because we took out about 600 miles of driving day one. The kids were great. I was mostly concerned about pulling the trailer for the first 100 miles, but got much more confident as the day progressed. It turns out the horrible Illinois roads made it seem like it would be a difficult drive, but things calmed down once I got off I-88!
We had lunch in the Dells (Wisconsin) and made sandwiches at a rest stop type of place. The kids got out and ran around in circles for a while and Joy made sandwiches. Dinner was in Minnesota at a rest stop. Joy pulled out our portable grill, and we made hot dogs and Mac's 'N Cheese. Yeah, I know, just like at home. The bad news is that the rain came right in and we had to scamper to the van and eat dinner in our laps. Oh well, that is part of the adventure.
We're in a hotel for night one, because of the long drive. Everyone got to go for a swim at the hotel pool, and are now sleeping. Tomorrow, we start our sight seeign in North Dakoda, starting with a Buffalo museum. We'll drive another 180 miles or so after that, and find a campsite and setup camp for the first time.
Awesome first day, at least in terms of progress.
Note: We did not see the Jolly Green Giant in Minnesota, but drove much of the day through there. I'm using the hotel computer, but we'll start loading our pictures as soon as we start taking some!
Bye! (please see Day 2 Blog from Fargo as well....)
