What a day... our tourguide arrived at the train station at our car on time... well actually we were 45 minutes late. He then asked us if we minded if we took two girls from his h8stel with us. We said no then he asked about going to another castle that would cost more. He said €60 but we got him doen to another€50 total.
First he took us to Bran castle the real fake dracula castle. Vlad probably only stayed in the castle for a couple of nights when retreating. But it also provided the idea for bram stokers hook and was briefly in the 1931 film. Anyway, the actual palace haf been lived in by the king a queen during the early 20th century. It was what you imagine a castle is as a kid. Tiny passageways wierd little rooms, places, doors. It also had tons wooden ornate furniture which I thought made the whole scene a bit darker.
After that we went down to the shops atound the base of the mountain the castle was on... we had langosh again and bought a hallow bread that had a bit of brown sugar cinamon and nuts on the outside. Oh I nearly gorgot that the castle was built in the 14th centuary by tutonic knights.
Next was Rasnov. This was a ruined hill fort with a few buildings restored. We climb the hill not that far but there was a tractor and wagon that would pull you up if you wanted. We ch3cked all around... it had quite a few stores with re-enactors showing thier wares...which took away from it for me. Still it was cool and i was happy to do it.
We then went to peles castles. This one was from the king of romania in the early to mid 20th century. We actually heard that they had asked a belgian to be king but he declined.... I guess he was too busy. They then asked a german that they tricked into accepting and so he built this place in a german style. Lots of dark woulds and the red tile roofs and a bit of the traditonal castle mixed with a hunting lodge retreat.
After that we were off to the train then the b&b, the supper of sausage and braised at varta and bed.
I also need to say thay gaberiel our tour guide seemed yo know everyone and be running a scam everuwhere. He would frive in past the gayes of the palace in his amcient davia car. A romanian made car. He we gey us etudent tickets to all the castles and just had the ehole thing worked out better them could be expected.... no better then could be imagined.
