Today, Trapper had to write her last exam of the year in her online course. So, that gave me time to pack the car and go to church and th St John's Basilica. It was quite a nice church and I was really struck by the vibrancy of the colours in the large stained glass windows, as well as the huge size of the alter and backdrop of the alter. I was also suprised at the number of people and the length of service for a week day mass. They even had the full big organ fired up and a small choir.
Anyway, before long we headed out of St John's we took the long way, starting at the begining of the trans canada highway, just to say we did. We made a picnic lunch in the car as we drove.
We then drove to Trinty on the Bonavista penensula, Trinity is a quaint fishing viliage that has been turned into exclusively a toursit town. But as a result it had 4-5 provinical government historic sites and 4-5 municpal historic sites all fully staffed and running. I really liked the operating blacksmith shop that makes various trinkets and art works. There were two guys working on things there and a third from a metal production place an hour away spending time learning. Trinity had been a fully operational cod fishing town and so it was interesting to see all the trades shops and things that would have been operating historically. There were also lots of pleasant little tourists businesses. We enjoyed taking pictures and walking through the sites and even got an ice cream before departing.
Just as we were thinking about leaving it started to rain. So the timing was pretty good. We drove the rest of the way (30-45minutes) to our bnb in Bonavista in the fog and drizzle and now it is raining but thats fine as we were just cooking supper, doing some laundry and otherwise preparing for tomorrow's adventure in Bonavista.
