Hey everyone
Today we went to Wanaka!
We got up early as the bus was leaving at 7.15am, but we were a little delayed as a guy was sick after a heavy night of drinking - so sick in fact he gave himself a nosebleed. Poor boy.
The reason we got up so early (before sunrise in fact) is so that we could get some amazing photos of Lake Matheson, a mirror-like lake surrounded buy the Southern Alps. Unfortunately, as the weather still hadn't cleared up and as the rain was so bad we didn't even get to see the Lake.
As the rain continued all day we didn't get out of the bus much, but the views were still impressive. The rainfall down the West coast had been heavy recently, so the rivers were often an impressive sight as they were raging and swollen. We passed hundreds of waterfalls, some of which were overflowing to the extent that they were blasting water onto the road. There was sometimes so much spray that it was like we were passing under the waterfall.
We briefly stopped at a waterfall which is normally impressive, but with the excessive rainfall recently it was insane. The spray hit us from the other side of the river and we'd never seen a river move so fast - you'll be pleased to know that we have a great video.
We had a long drive to Wanaka so we slept most of the way. We arrived in the late afternoon to yet more rain, so we hurried into the hostel. Alex found out the hostel had a offer on double rooms which worked out cheaper than a dorm room, so we were especially pleased when we went to our room and it was luxurious (by our standards anyway) - we had an en-suite and a TV in our room which had Sky Movies. Compared to the usual rooms we stay in we were in heaven. We even had towels and little soaps in the bathroom!
We settled into our room, watched the end of the Chipmunks film and found out that Die Hard 4 would be on later that evening. We headed to the supermarket to buy dinner and afterwards made ourselves comfy, ready to watch one of our favourite films. Xxx
