Today we roamed about in Florence! We stayed a cute little hostel owned by an older woman and her sister. She was so welcoming and helpful- a true hostess! After a quick rest we walked to to the Galleria dell' Accademia to see Michelangel's David. The sculpture was amazing and so detailed! I can't imagine the amount of time that must have gone in to making it. Although pictures weren't aloud, we managed to snap a few quick shots ;)
While in Florence, we also visited Duomo Santa Maria del Fiore. This gothic cathedral from the 1870's is adorned with Tuscan marble. The inside of the dome is decorated with one of the largest paintings of the Renaissance, Last Judgment by Giorgio Vasari and Federico Zuccari. Then, we decided to venture up Giotto's Tower! This 270- foot bell tower has 414 steps- and yes, we climbed every last one! Through narrow stairwells that seemed to last for hours we barely made it to the top! But the view was definitely worth it! ( see for yourself in my photos)
On to Pisa!
