The travels of Karyn and Robert
First port day is Katakolo, which is a small port town, that is 35 km away from Mount Olympus. Up early, room service breakfast at our bow window overlooking the Mercedes Taxis and the Bug buses arriving for the schmucks that pay 80 Euros for the round trip. We were off the vessel thinking we would have a walk around the town and find Coffee and Wifi, walking along the port shops and storekeeper who is from Adelaide, heard our accents and welcomed me into the store, Robert was already in (she happened to be a good looking blond - Robert didn't notice - yeah!). After being told that the 10 Euro train was unreliable from the Cruise Location Director the night before we asked her about the train, she said the train was O.K, so we ended up catching the 8:45 am train to Olympus (with 20 seconds to spare - what is it with just making trains this trip!) We have just spent the morning walking around the archaeological site of Olympus, finding the cheapest water and ice-cream in Greece (due to walking the wrong way to the site and finding a taverna near the back entrance, 0.50 Euro for Water/soft drinks and 1 Euro for beer. Bonus was the free Wifi). We chatted to Edward and non-demonic child Elizabeth via Facebook chat. Info about the train, it is a single track light gauge diesel with two cars, similar to the Sydney Light rail. The driver needs his cigar and espresso to travel the 35 km 4 stop distance. the journey is a great way to see the Olive trees, the graffiti is removed by the overgrowing vegetation. Total cost of Paluzzano Visit 50 Euro (including drinks, ice cream and Coffee) V Shore Excursion 260 Euro. Pays to speak to the locals,
