On the road again all loaded up with boat and ute we drove to the freeway parked and and went to Glenrowan where the capture of Ned Kelly took place. Unfortunately the show was not running that day but we were able to have a look around the meseum and read lots about the life of Ned Kelly the famous bushranger. Discussions had on weather he was a good man or not and if he should be classed as a hero. SUCH IS LIFE.
Driving through Sheparton where there was a very high percentage of orchards, huge irrigation channels and SPC fruit factory is located.
Arriving at Echuca we parked up at Rich River Golf Club feeling like it may have been a bit fancy for us but were happy with the $12 for a years membership and we had our camp site for the next 2 nights. Heading for our first swimming in the Murry River we were surprised at the expance of it but learnt that it is now an artificial level it use to dry up this time of year prior to the weirs installed and water supplies from the lakes. the following day entailed a walk through the historic port set back in the 1800's and a 2 hour paddle steamer ride up the Murry River on the Emmylou. A clean well kept boat that used 1- 2 tonnes of wood to keep the steam and paddles going each day. Back to Rich River where we played a game of tennis.
Wednesday heading to Bendigo the 4th biggest inland city in Australia with 43,000 population, huge beatiful old buildings and park gardens in the centre of town. We walked up poppet head (the old frame for the mine shaft) for the overview of town, another town that started with the gold rush. We then parked the bus up amoungst some beautiful gum tree, on some grassland beside a creek and wild kangaroos- a free camp 15 km out of town.
Thursday driving to Ballarat where we are parking up at Graeme and Celia at Mt Boninyong farm (Sarah Johnsons parents) for a good look around Ballarat and traveling the Great Ocean Road (camping).
