We went to the National Museum of the American Indians today, and although I wasn't particularly interested in visiting the museum to begin with, I was really glad we went once we started looking around the exhibition. I never had any real idea just how tragic their history was. I really loved how intense and important their connection to Earth is - I reckon we could learn a lot from their attitude of how we treat the land determines how the land will treat us!
We also visited Arlington National Cemetary, and I really like this quote from Robert Kennedys grave:
"Each time a man stands up for an ideal or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centres of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance"
The graves were all of military men, and stretched on as far as the eye could see! I think everything was meant to inspire a sense of patriotism, but all I could think was right here in front of us was some pretty damn obvious evidence that war really is not worth it al. 320, 000 lives! About 27 burials occur every DAY.
We had lunch and spent the afternoon with Dad in Georgetown, then had to say goodbye I hate goodbyes.
