Unfortunately our time in san antonio was mostly spent in a huge shopping "mall"! I was quite disappointed because although giant complexes like that are great if you simply want to shop, they tend to be terrible representations of a particular place. We could have been anywhere, were it not for the mexican band playing by the river in the centre of the shops. I laughed my butt off went John and I ventured into a cowboy store and the shop salesman informed me that I spoke with a "Tennessee Twang!"
The river boat tour was certainly the saving grace of our San Antonio Visit. We all piled into "Miss Caroline" and our incredibly chirpy guide, who had a habit of addressing trhe passengers us "My Dears", gave us some history and facts about the river walk. The history itself wasn't all that interesting, but it was really cool to soak up the atmosphere, see all the colourful lights reflecting off of the water and wave back to the friendly people dining under bright umbrellas on the river bank. There was one oooh-aaahhh building, that was designed to appear 2D. We ate dinner in a mexican restaurant where Christina secretely told the waiters it was Victoria's birthday, and they randomly launched an attack on Victoria, Jen and I, shoving weird wrestling masks over our faces - then giving us a free dessert.
When we arrived at our campsite the boss man Ross, a self-professed Samuel L. Jackson lookalike, introduced himself and gave us a few rules ("there are cameras in the wooded areas so think twice before you do the horizontal slide") and individually went around the group, asking where each of us was from. He had travelled to almost every city, complements of the US Airforce!
