So even though I'm in London this morning I'm blogging about Hadrian's wall. We were so exhausted and late yesterday that I couldn't blog at all.
We started the day with a several mile hike over several large crags. We began a steel rigg and ended at sycamore gap. It was quite a difficult but beautiful hike especially when you consider it was a relatively short distance. We were along the wall through out the hike. I really enjoyed it. I think trapper was a little over tired and was having more diffulty with the hike than I was.
Next we went to houses reads Roman Fort that was also right on the wall and on the crest of a hill. It was huge and quite amazing to think that we were walking in what was built and lived in by people almost 2000 years ago.
After that we went to vindilanda fort which was a fort that was a couple hundred years older but was fairly similar. They were currently excavating a couple new portions of the Fort so it was cool to watch all happen. I think trapper really enjoyed the excavations. One of the workers came and had a chat with us and told us that the portion of ditch we were looking at had given up 500 or so 2000 year old shoes in the last 5 weeks.
It was a lot of fun but also tiring. After that we stopped at what felt like a locals only late lunch. The waitress who was only about 20 something was quite interested in us as we were from Canada and she wants to go at some point.
After lunch we left and drove to London. It took quite awhile but we made it and checked into our disgustingly hot room.
