Well the last time we spoke we were 3 days into our stay at the hostel intending to stay for another month. Everything was going well we were enjoying our jobs, enjoying our beach days and enjoying exploring all around us. A week into our stay we had a scary night it was 5 am in the morning we were awoken by crashing on the doors downstairs to the entrance of the apartment, shouting, screaming and the door bell ringing trying to get the managers answer from the office right next door to our room. Somehow these loud group of people managed to get in.. we stayed in bed with our room door locked listening. These loud group of people were drunk and wanted to check in at this time in the morning which the manager did not allow and so as it got out of hand a fight broke out and it was thumping and banging which was very scary we stayed with our room locked and didn't come out. It eventually settled down and the next morning the manager went to hospital and came out with concussion. We had a wobbly few days after that but we had nowhere planned to go and hoped for the best that it was a one off. We carried on with our daily tasks and a few days later the cleaners ended up being sacked so we were responsible for taking over their roles. Some days that would mean cleaning 10 rooms, the two kitchens, the three storey building hall ways, the bathrooms and the glass. It was a lot of work for two people in 5 hours but we always always worked very hard and a lot of the time would finish work later than we are suppose to and flonk out but we got there and got use to the work and got better and quicker as the days went on. We had agreed with the managers as they were now stuck for no cleaners and didn't want to rush finding new ones we would stay for just over a month to help them out and it was free accommodation for us. As the days went on the bloke manager Shane would be very miserable and unfriendly towards us hardly speaking or noticing our work and as if we were doing something wrong. But anyway we carried on his wife Louise the co manager although was lovely and very appreciative and helped us out with making the 20 plus beds.. thank god!
The days went on and it was a Saturday night our time to go out for the day let our hair down, have a drink and something nice to eat( after we finished work of course) . We always looked forward to Saturday when it was only Monday! We got dressed up nicely, took a bottle of wine down the beach, ate some nachos and sushi and spent 20 dollars in the arcade the best cheapest fun we'd had! We got abit tipsy and ended up backin our room dancing, singing and eating some nibbles and we can't really remember too much! Only ryan pushing me in a trolley! Who knows haha! The next morning we were up at 9:30 am for work.. me Megan feeling icky and after being sick a few times we got up for work and to our disbelief we had 11 rooms to clean today! Oh no .. a hangover and lots of smelly filthy rooms to clean that's the last thing we needed. At least when I was cleaning the bathrooms I had a toilet to be ill in if I needed so it wasn't too much inconvenience.. hahaha! A few sick buckets later we had cleaned about 6 rooms over half way woo!
I have to admit I've never been so slow and effortless at cleaning everything was hard work I was so tired and felt weak and fragile, anyway I had to make the dreaded bunk bed.. I threw the linen up on the top bunk and caught my hand in the full spinning ceiling fan in the process.. omg I've never felt anything so painful I just dropped to the bed hysterically whilst ryan caught me all of a sudden my hangover was completely forgotten about and my hand was in sooo much pain. Louise got me an ice pack and I sat out the way for 45 minutes waiting for ryan to finish the 2.5 hours cleaning. I felt sick again and the shooting pains through my hand were indescribable. 12pm Ryan finished work we got the tram to the hospital and after lots of waiting and X-rays we came out at 6pm with a cast on.. it's my carpometacarpal bone that I have damaged and as it is the bone tucked away hidden at the bottom of my thumb it's unsure to say but as it's so tender and swollen they were concerned so this means a two week cast.. no sea :(, no beaches, no theme parks and no gym :-(. Two weeks in a cast then an appointment with the fracture clinic on 29th May morning for another X-ray and fingers crossed not a 6 week cast. After the day we had and the pain I was in we had a car viewing and as the car seller had waited around for us all day after driving an hour for us to view the car we couldn't say no.I I was stocked up on painkillers and the girl drove to the hospital to kindly pick us up and ryan could test drive the car.. Holden commodore V6. We really liked the car and after returning back to the hostel at 6:30pm to view the car and do the check overs in the rain and cold we just went on and bought it. Slightly rushed but it all happened so fast and we're happy with it now. We completed paperwork, transferred registration owners etc with the previous owner and handed them the 2,200 dollars. 7:45 pm we returned upstairs and got told by the managers that they want a chat they did not look happy and as you can imagine after the day we had we weren't either. We hadn't eaten a thing all day so we firstly walked down the street to pick up a burrito and headed back to have our chat.. 9:15 pm. We had our stern talking to by the managers who told us we had to leave in 5 days, and because I can't clean I now have to pay 45 dollars a night to pay for their cleaner they will now have to employ. They spoke very down to us, belittled us, moaned at us about their high amount of work load and said we told you to turn the fans off... after the day we had that's the last thing we wanted to hear and it's happened now so it was pointless saying it.
We left their office headed back to our room and thought we have to get out of here asap.. we weren't staying here paying that amount for a place like this and especially after getting spoken to like that. We booked up a place in palm beach for a week ..the other side of Gold Coast.. very modern, and only £26 a night with a private bathroom and spacious room. The next morning we packed our new car that we'd only saw in the dark luckily it was all good! and headed to the gym to hope for a refund of at least my membership they kindly refunded half our money which was good and we then headed to the tax office to insurance and register our new vehicle into our name and then head to our new place. And what a delight we had arriving.. it's so clean, the couple are very friendly and young, our bathroom is bigger than the room we were staying in at the hostel let alone the room. It was bliss. As we still have a week unplanned until the hospital appointment and mum and dad don't want us sleeping in the car kindly mum, dad, uncle mark and nanny and papa paid for us to extend another week at this lovely place. Thank you so much all of you for that we so appreciate it.
So after our rubbish few days we have had it's all picking up, my hand is still very tender but Ryans looking after me so well putting my hair up, bagging it up and washing my hair and we've been seeing some lovely national parks and waterfalls not quite the beach days but even better views and breathtaking atmosphere that we won't ever forget. Our cars going along nicely and we can't wait to pimp it up and go on more fun adventures.
Lots of love,
Ryan and Meg xx

Karen W Hi Ry and Meg - wow that was a pretty scary at times adventure but as the saying goes every cloud has a silver lining and now staying in a mansion compared to the hostel. Fingers crossed for the 29th Meg. Hope you are not in too much pain with your arm - Dave has shown me your recent pics - they are stunning - what everlasting memories you are making
