Hi all, when we last spoke we mentioned meeting up with my friend Vic and her friends.. Well that was brilliant fun, we made it to Double Island point and Rainbow Beach after getting bogged in the sand a few times - made it even more exciting! The weather was pretty awful but it mostly stayed dry so that's good shame about the strong winds though. We all got on so well we have arranged to all meet up again in Brisbane (Where they live) on our way back down which will be great.
After Noosa we made our way up to Hervey Bay where we jumped in another 4WD and did a tag along tour around Fraser Island: The largest sand island in the world. There were 3 4WD's in convoy with 6-8 passengers in each vehicle with only one tour guide, which drove our vehicle. Unfortunately you had to be 21 to drive :-( first of all we did tubbing down Eli creek, then the Pinnicles + the coloured sands and to finish the day we went to the SS Maheno shipwreck which was mind blowing! We all stayed over night in Happy Valley - The first time me and Meg had expierence other people in our room, the rooms had two bunks. The following day we went to the famous Lake Mckenzie for a dip and another lake and rainforest walk but I can't remember what they were called. The waters at Lake Mckenzie were amazing, crystal clear and the sand was pure white. We met some great people and had the best time! Glad to be back in our own bed and have some peace though haha.
Next stop.. Cape Hillsborough. Words do not describe how wonderful, peaceful and tranquil this place is (See photos). We camped right beside the beach, when we pulled up the sun was just setting besides the mountains in the distance and the sky was all lit up orange. It was perfect - Coming from a bloke!! The following morning we drove to the main beach and was greeted on the beach by wild Wallabies and Kanagroos it was like nothing else. We watched the sun come up between the fluffy ears of a very friendly Kanagroo, called Bridget. We even kissed on the lips! There was 50 other people on the beach to see the sunrise too but it didn't spoil the atmosphere like you would imagine, it was thee perfect way to start the day. We cooked up pancakes in the car park too :-)
Our next adventure took us to the Whitsundays Islands, we drove to Airlie Beach and jumped on a boat with 18 others on the quest to explore and snorkel around the Whitsundays. Our first snorkel spot was Chalkies Beach, 99% silica sand (Whatever that means) but it was white, pure and like talculm powder! The snorkel was great and there were loads of different colour fish, however the water wasn't as clear as we had hoped but not bad considering cyclone Debbie came through and wrecked the joint only 2 months prior! Second snokrel stop was at a different location with different coral. On to Whitehaven Beach one of the top ten beaches in the world! The same beautiful sand as Chalkies. They were hosting a half marathon right on the beach, what a location! Auntie Karen you will have to add that one on your to do list. The beach was truly bliss - We had rolls for lunch which made us both feel like we were back in school haha. On the way back we stopped in a lush resort called Palm Bay the beach was awful with rocky sand which we both hated but had the most amazing cold water pool with a fountain nestled in amongst the palm trees. Not forgetting to mention lots of comfy bean bags on the beach! $239 a night to stay in the resort AND it was self-catering what a rip off! Glad we were only there for a dip in the pool.
Airlie beach was the town that got directly hit by the cyclone when we were down in Melbourne all safe and sound - Gladly! Two months on and the town is still badly effected and is slowly rebuidling. We had our favourite pizza and garlic bread on the beach and watched the sunset, what a way to end a magical weekend.
We continued onto Townsville and boarded a ferry across to Magnetic Island where we walked, in thongs around the coast of the island to the other side stopping off at all the little bays along the way. Florence + The Radicals were our favourites before finally reaching Horseshoe Bay 5 hours later! We played a couple of games of UNO on the beach and jumped on the bus back before returning home completely exhuasted but very pleased too!
Finally we are now taking it easy at Mission Beach, almost at Cairns. Tully is only down the road which is the wettest town in the whole of Australia with an adverage rainfall of 4,000 millimetres and it's living up to it's reputation as it is now raining and forecasted to all the way up to Cape Tripulation (Which is where we are heading) :-( now it's time to have a re-think of our plans as nothings is fun in the rain especailly when you are camping! Hard to believe yesterday we were trekking around in 26 degrees heat on Magnetic Island.
So this little journey we have just taken you on from Noosa to Mission Beach is in actual fact 16.5 hours long a whopping 1,458.9kms and that's going directly from A to B, which we didn't!!
All this camping, sometimes in free spots besides the road and sometimes in caravan parks for the hot showers brings back so many fond memories of our childhoods. For me, this reminds me so much of all the times Nanny and Granddad Beckly took me and Leigh away in their caravan and for Meg Looe Caravan park when she was petrified of Freddy the fox and Ben split his leg open and Sarah and Tank didn't believe him and carried on playing bingo!!!
We hope you enjoy the read as always and are all enjoying the hot weather at home you lucky devils! It's meant to be us in the sun, not you lot at home :-(
Love to you all, speak soon
Ryan and Meg xx
