After a long journey we finally arrived at the hostel around 1:30am where Kat was waiting to meet us :) I didn't manage much sleep, probably because I slept the majority of the plane journey, but Browny was snoring away! In the morning we walked into Quito and went to the plaza grande where there was loads of shoe shine boys. We had breakfast in a market - scrambled eggs and a bread roll with a kind of dairylea type cheese and the most sugary/milky coffee ever, I wasn't a fan so Browny ate both of ours!
We decided we were going to go on la telefériQo - a cable car which took you up the side of Volcán Pinchincha and looked out all over Quito. At over 4000m, the altitude was making us all feel a bit funny and I felt particularly awful! The view was amazing though and showed us how big of a city Quito is!
After returning back down the mountain we then went to the Basílica which is a massive church - none of us were interested enough to go in so we just took some photos outside. We then walked back to the centre and got some lunch from a bakery before getting a bus (just 25 cents wherever you were going!) to the botanical gardens. After arriving here we ate our lunch and got pestered by a local to buy some fruit salad, he was rambling to us for ages and in the end Kat bought some so he would leave us alone! A boy then came up to us asking for food and so we gave him the fruit salad - which looked pretty awful but he still ate it! After having a look through the gates we decided against the botanical gardens and hired pedallows instead. Getting into the pedallow I managed to tear a massive hole in my jeans and so had to walk around for the rest of the day with an unfortunately placed hole!
On the way back on the bus Kat and Nathan got on but the doors shut on me and then browny almost got flipped off the ramp! After being given lots of advice by an old Ecuadorian man about how to board the bus we realised we had no idea where we were going as we had left the map reading to Nathan all day! We got on the next bus and were trying to remember the name/how many stops we had to go through to get there when luckily Kat and Nathan got onto our bus at the next stop!
After getting back to the hostel we had a quick nap and I changed my jeans ready for. We went to a restaurant called 'fried banana' which Kat and Nathan had found to be recommended on trip advisor. The food was really good and this was in a more lively part of town so after dinner we went and had a cocktail at one of the bars, but with us all aware of our 4:30am wake up tomorrow to leave for the Galapagos Islands we were all keen to head back to the hostel for an early night!
