Day 23 - Devils Marbles to Daly Waters (504km/7hrs)
Again we were up early waiting for the sun to rise and were able to get away just before 7am.
It was a big driving day with not a lot to look at apart from lots of eagles circling and sometimes we were lucky to see the wedgies right near the road, cattle and lots of termite mounds. We enjoyed looking at the T-shirt’s on the termite mounds as it gave us something different to look at. In one section there were so many termite mounds it looked like a cemetery.
We had to pull off the road twice today for oversized trucks which all had mining machinery - they were huge.
It was a very hot drive today and the weather has now hit 29 degrees. We finally arrived at Daly Waters around 2pm and had to fill up the car at the tiny little petrol station as the one on the highway had no diesel.
We checked into the caravan park and the kids quickly found a dog and a family to chat to. We were about to go for a swim and our 2 neighbours from last night at devils marbles pulled up right next to us again so we all had a laugh and a quick chat then off to the pool we went. We all went for a swim which (apart from Bronte jumping in at Kings Canyon) is the first swim for the holiday. The water was very refreshing and I didn’t stay in long but the kids did.
We then walked through the museum across the road from the pub and the kids had a little play in the park. We had a quick look in the pub at all the memorabilia then we enjoyed a drink sitting outside soaking in the atmosphere. The kids met another travelling family who were having a drink next to us (with 2 girls similar ages) so off to the park the kids went and then back to the pool.
We had sausages for dinner then went back to the pub for the night time entertainment
As soon as we got there Josh was straight on the dance floor and the life of the party. The girls followed him shortly after. Josh was breakdancing to a country & western singer. He got all the oldies up and children up on the dance floor too. He was teaching the oldies the floss and they were teaching him dances
We were introduced to another travelling family too (who have 3 girls and the eldest Bronte’s age). The kids had a ball and didn’t want to leave and watching the oldies getting right into it all made for a very entertaining night.
I finally dragged the kids away after the last song and Josh enjoyed telling everyone that he was a celebrity!
