Tasha's Travels
We were up at 5 to get an early start, we knew it was going to be 9 hours of walking, but the day before had been fantastic and other the headache i hadn't found the altitude bad at all. Day 2 was a different story, we could take no more than a few paces before we felt exhausted, the air was very cold and thin so even the most gradual path was hard going, and it was all up hill for 6 hours to make it to the pass! Thankfully the views were equally spectacular with Alpaca scuttling above you and the Cross Glacier now at almost eye level, so after scrambling over a lot of boulders we had finally made it to 4700m to the top of the pass!! I don't think i have ever felt so chuffed about something!! The rest of the day was very relaxed downhill and we were ery speedy and got to camp by 4 so we had some daylight to play with! It was a lot colder than the night before, so we all sat huddled in the food tent playing cards for as long as we could stand before we turned in, and i went to my tent wearing about 6 layers and my coat hat gloves!!!!
After a surprisingly good sleep we were up at 5 to begin our 3hour walk to meet up with the others! The walk was completely different views again, we were downhill all the way in the valley with waterfalls and a river meandering alongside us, there was lush grass and trees and we passed through a very pretty grassy opening for our snack just along from 'beautiful Village' i can't remember the Peruvian words, but it was very pretty. Then Finally the group was back together to go and explore Ollantaytambo ruins and then we spent the night in Aguas Calientes- hot springs to get up early to head to Machu Picchu!
