Tasha's Travels
Hi everyone
Its 6 am here, we're meant to be at the port at 8am to cath our ferry to Uraguay, but we have only just got in from our night out. We decided it would be easier to stay up than to grab an hours sleep, so i thought i would update my journal while i have the chance.
Today has been a very busy day, but its been great. We headed to the Evita museum first thing which was really interesting. There is a real mix of opinions about whether she was a good thing or not, so it was good to learn more about her and all things that she accomplished for Argentina. The museum didn't have everything translated which was a shame, but there was lots of her belongings and she also wore some amazing clothes and shoes, so that was all very interesting for me!
After the museum we headed to teh botanic gardens for a picnic ( saving the pennys) but we have now renamed it Cat Kingdom- i literally have never seen so many cats just hanging out in one place. Its so strange, they dont'seem to be strays, so we think that all the pets from the apartments must all meet up there to hang out with each other, i know it seems a strange thing to mentions, but it really is a surprising sight! We then sorted our boat trip to Colonia in Uraguay, and took some more pics around the city of the Obelisque and Federal buildings. There is such a mish mash of old and new buildings with these stunning stone ornate buildings surrounded by tower blocks.
This evening we headed to Cafe Tortoni, its the old tango cafe in Buenos Aires and one of the few classic Argentinian style cafes around. When we went inside it was like stepping into a time warp, it looked just like a bar from Bugsy Malone, complete with the old women in fir coats dripping with all their jewellery. The tango was held in downstairs and it was more like a play than just a dance show. They took us through the history of Tango, with its beginning in te Brothels taking us to the more sophisticated status of today. The dancing and singing were both great and it was such a perfect setting to watch it with a great atmosphere. Our plan was then to grab some dinner and be up early to get to the port at 8am. However some other people from our hostel were also at Cafe Tortoni, so we stayed there for a bit and they were heading on to a club and we decided we couldn't miss out on the fun!
The club is along the port which is very buzzy with lots of restaurants and bars and the river has a very small version of the Millennium Bridge in Newcastle ( unintentional i'm sure) which was all light up, don't think it came out on my pics! The club was very similar to those at home, very trendy with some good music, and pretty expensive too, but it was a wicked night, lots of fun!
Think its starting to dawn on us that we are going to have to keep going now for quite a long day- but it will be worth it!
