Tasha's Travels
Hi Everyone
So at long last i have put my pictures up, haven't had time to put descriptions on all of them, and only just figured out about rotating them ha ha so excuse a few sideways ones! So still in Buenos Aires and still absolutely loving it! Yesterday we attacked the sunday markets, there are so many!! First off, we went to Recoletta Market, Recoletta is one of the nicer Barrios, its quite upmarket with big houses and parks etc. The market is full of crafts and leather and jewellery etc So many stalls and was so great wandering round all of them, the people are all so lovely and friendly. Everyone over here carries a small little goblet and a thermas flask, the goblet has all these herbs in it and has a metal straw with a filter, its like tea called Mate, so there are lots of those sold everywhere- very ornate too. I have yet to try that! Both of us were very restrained at the first market- i only got a scarf!! Unfortunately i have got a bad cold- so i felt the purchase was justified- plus its gorgeous! hee hee!
We then headed to the cemetery where all the Generals and Presidents are buried, along with Evita Peron. It was so erie i didn't like it at all. Its like a mini town, with named streets and a town square bit and church, but instead of houses there are crypts, these ornate tombs, some almost like houses and you can often look in and see the coffins sat there, and pictures and keep sakes of the dead- sooooo creepy!! We finally hunted down Evitas grave, and it turned out to be her birthday, so there was lots of people there and lots of them had left huge bouquets of flowers. It was one of the most modest ordinary ones there!
We then headed to Plaza Serrano, its towards where we're staying in Palermo, which is the Soho area of Buenos Aires. There are so many funky cafes and bars and restaurants. On a Sunday, the bars around the plaza in the centre of Serrano fill up with these amazing stalls with trendy clothes and bags- both of us went into meltdown knowing we couldn't really afford to carry much more. But it was just so cheap, so in the end, i got a very nice leather bag for just 16quid and a wallet for 3pounds! Think we may have to head back there next Sunday!
Today we started off with a visit to our local bakery- soooo many fresh pastries and homemade chocolates and cakes! YUM. Think i will arrive in Peru twice the size at this rate! Tonight we think we're going to head to either a Jazz club or a live Tango show later tonight, not sure which yet, and some friends of ours went to La Boca juniours final match last night and said it was amazing, and they have another match on sunday, but La Boca is quite dangerous so we would need a special tour, so not sure we'll do that ( it would mean missing Serrano Market ha ha)!
Sounds like its hotter back in the Uk than it is over here, so i hope you are all enjoying the sunshine and relaxing with plenty of gin and maybe a BBQ!!!
All my love
tasha
