After a ten hour bus ride we finally arrived in Switzerland! I pretty much drove through Switzerland with my mouth hanging open the whole time. I knew Switzerland was beautiful but I didn't realize the scenery would be that amazing!! The word amazing actually doesn't even begin to explain how breathtaking these views were!!! We got to camp pretty late and went exploring around the town. Lauterbrunnen is a town set deep in a valley with sheer cliffs either side and waterfalls all around. It's absolutely stunning. Anyway, we saw these two guys go down this little path so thought we'd follow to see where it went. It actually led us through a graveyard and ended at this hill. We could see a path going up it so we decided to keep following. However we got to the top and assumed that would be it but instead discovered a tunnel. We had no idea where it would lead us but continued anyway and finally we came to these stairs at the end of the tunnel!!! Once again we had no clue where this was taking us but still decided to go up anyway. Oh by the way it was pitch black and we only had one torch between like 7 of us which made things difficult. So we headed up these stairs and came out on a cliff face which had a small rocky path. We kept following and then noticed things were starting to get wet... Turns out what we thought was just a path to a hill ended up leading us along the cliff where we finally ended up behind a flowing waterfall down the cliff. It was definitely an adventure and super awesome!
The next day we got up nice and early and caught the train up to Jungfrae Mountain, the highest accessible peak in Europe at over 12000 ft. We visited an ice palace up there which just had lots of ice carvings which was pretty impressive. However the highlight of the day was definetly the snow fun park. We spent most of the day been little kids again and going tobogganing, snowbiking and tubing. Was one of the funnest days I think I've ever had actually. That night we all sat around our camp site all having a laugh and sharing stories (some went skydiving that day). I realized if I had done the hostel option that things probably wouldn't be as social as everyone would be in their rooms, etc rather then all outside together. We also wouldn't be allowed to drink in the hostels, whereas camping we've invented a "chilli bin" (container filled with cold water) where everyone can put their drinks in and we can all sit around it together.
Well thats it for Switzerland. Once again a place that leaves me in awe. At the moments I'm thinking it will definitely be a country that's up there on my list of favourites!
