Before making our way to Spain, we had a one night stop in the French town of Avignon. It is a walled city that once was the home of the Vatican (the only time the Pope has left Rome) and after many centuries, the walls are still there today. It's quite a pretty little town. We got dinner and ate it on the banks of the river while watching the sun set. The whole group soon ended up joining us and it became a night of drinking wine, playing cards and in general just chilling next to the river.
The next day we made our way to Barcelona. On the way we stopped at Pont Du Gard, a Roman aqueduct that was built in 50 AD. It was quite impressive.
Hola! (hello) We got to Barcelona and went on a driving tour to all the main sites. My first thoughts of Spain was that it wasn't what I expected. I thought it would be more run down or something but it's definitely a modern city. It's actually really gorgeous with lots of monuments, fountains, etc. That night we went out for dinner and had a Spanish classic dish called paella. It was pretty good! Then in classic Topdeck style we all went out partying :)
The next day we went shopping and then to the beach and along the waterfront. When we first walked onto the beach we actually froze and thought we were on a nudist beach. None of the girls had tops on! It must be some Spanish thing not to wear bikini tops!!! We definitely weren't taking ours off though! The beach was pretty relaxing. We swam in the Mediterranean Ocean and soaked up the hot Spanish sun. Oh some b**** also tried to pick pocket me!!! Been such a smart person though I did catch her :)
Our last night in Spain and we went out in style. Pulled an all nighter, got back at 6.30 and had to be on the bus at 7. Great night!!!
Anyways, I wish we were in Spain longer. It's kind of a place where you need more time to explore. One day I would love to come back and travel the rest of Spain.
