Tara's Travels
Ok, destination four NEW ZEALAND!!
i was very sad to be leaving sydney, however after boarding the 2 hour and 20 minute plane journey to Christchurch (i was very happy it was this short) i was balled over when we flew over the mountains, it was so surreal!! We arrived in Christchurch which is supposed to be a city, wigan is bigger than it haha, but it is much nicer than wigan, the only way i could describe it was having the characteristics of Prague and Bolton (obviously if you havent been to both you wouldnt have a clue but my Nan will). We spent the afternoon getting used to a new country, it didnt take much for either me or soph as it was so quiet, there was literally no one there.
The day after we got on the transalpine from Christchurch to Greymouth, it is recorded as one of the best train jounreys in the world because of the sights you see (sorry dad). we got on it and i have to say the commentary from the driver was so funny (im not going to write it on here though as one people may get offended and two, im not very good at making it sound funny, so the punchline will be missed). When we got to greymouth, well the weather was alot like home, chucking it down and miserable, but i kind of liked it. As there was nothing to do in the town really we cuddled up under our duvet and chatted and had lunch. That night however i was very excited as we went to a brewery for the beer in NZ known as Monteiths, we walked around the brewery and the guide showed us every part of it being made and then let us try some of there beers, my face is so funny on some of them as you all know im not the biggest beer drinker as i have to have tonnes of lime in it for me to drink it, however!! they must have known i was coming as they had brewed a lime flavour beer, i was very happy. But my absolute favourite was the cider :D afterwards we got to pull ourselves our own pint behind the bar, i felt like i was back at work again it was ace and my pint was by far the best pulled tehe.
The next day we boarded our magic bus to Franz Josef, stopping at a jade factory on the way and a place called ross where you could go panning for gold, ooo yea, im rich now haha. When we got to Franz Josef we decided to go for a walk to the foot of the glacier as it cost an arm and a leg to climb it. So, we set off on what soph said was a nice short walk away...an hour after we were still walking and there was no sign of this flipping glacier!! We finally saw the top of it, so we were very happy :) then we saw a sign saying 30 mins return to see the glacier, we got there and realised it was a viewing platform and it was another 30minutes to get to the glacier, by this point i was in big time sulk as i was tired and wet and my feet were sore, however, we carried on finally getting to the foot of the glacier, only to take 2 pics and set off back on our journey. Soph and i was coming up with all kinds of ideas about pretending to brake our legs and then people driving by would give us a lift, until two australian ladies walking past us said you two have walked fast (they had drove past us at the beggining of our journey and we had still beaten them to the foot of the glacier, however, one of them was pregnant) they offered us a lift back to the town though so we were very happy bunnies :D The next day we headed to Queenstown, it was a whole day of a drive, however our driver took us to some very interesting places; lake mathason (the picture for this blog) which is known as the view of all views because of the reflection in the lake. Now, my picture does not look like that as it was all misty, but i got a good reflection of the trees haha, so i bought a postcard. We stopped off at other places looking at all the mountains and rivers and finally got to Queenstown at 6pm. It was straight to bed for us however as we were up at 6pm to go to Milford Sound. It took us 5 hours to get there and we went around the Fiord on a ferry and saw some stunning sights; waterfalls and mountains again haha, it was a very scenic trip though as we travelled through the waterfalls and they made rainbows through them. The next day we went for a trip on the skyline gondolla, last night we went on a pub crawl (whoooop) and then today we went to play crazy golf, i didnt loose, i came third :D so i was very happy hehe
