Said goodbye to the Maoris after a delicious breakfast of French toast.
Was dropped off first at the rafting place as was off white water rafting! In the winter, crazy I know but why not! We were fitted with wetsuits, helmets and lifejackets before being taught what to do and the safety rules and so on before getting into the water.
It was awesome! Brilliant fun. Went down a few tiny waterfalls before a big one. We were hoping not to fall off but we hit a rapid on the way down (something like that) which flipped the raft over. The water was absolutely freezing! Never felt anything that cold! My feet were freezing even though I had wet shoes on.
Managed to get back on the raft and continued on. Then paddled into rapids and took in turns to sit in the front where we got the most wet. My shoes were filled with water by that time lol! Went down a tiny waterfall standing up for the camera.
Bought photos but they're on a CD so will have to wait until I get home. Some hilarious pictures with everyone's expressions which are funny.
Was so glad to get changed into warm clothes.
Off to a spa afterwards called Hell's Gate, which was perfect after having been in freezing water. Wow, the smell! There were sulphur baths so it smelt of rotten eggs. Not nice! Got used to the smell after a while though.
Went in a mud bath first and pampered ourselves by covering ourselves with the mud which is good for our skin. The sulphur baths were next. Both baths were so warm which was really nice. Got a bit too hot after a while though so had a quick shower to wash off the sulphur smell. Could still smell it though, maybe it was me or just the area I was in.
Went for a walk to see all the different sulphur pools which were at various temperatures.
Left just in time, it started pouring down! Got dropped off at the hotel, lovely. There was a TV with subtitles! So had lunch whilst watching a bit of TV which was lovely! First time I've watched TV since leaving home (apart from the World Cup in Bolivia which doesn't count!)
Had another shower properly to wash off the sulphur smell. I still can smell it or maybe it's just my imagination, no idea!
Went out to explore Rotorua town for a bit but it started raining again so I couldn't be bothered and went back to the hotel and relaxed in front of the TV for the rest of the evening! Probably won't have this for a while so I'm making the most of it :D
