In yet another a new country; Chile!
Got up at 5am to get ready to leave for the airport. The taxi arrived earlier than 6am, as originally booked, which was a nice change especially not to have to keep waiting and wondering where it is!
Checked in and got my boarding pass. Had to laugh as my boarding pass had "DEAF" on it. Not that anyone took any notice of it!
Sat almost at the front of the plane. Definitely not used to it as I'm usually in the middle/towards the back. So got served first and was so much quicker getting off the plane which was great!
The 3 and a half hours flight went by so quickly, was busy reading a really good book. As we were nearing Santiago I noticed the amazing view out of the plane. Many mountains and the plane was so close to them. I was getting excited as it looked like a really interesting country with amazing scenery.
Had the smoothest landing ever!
Since I was at the front of the plane there was hardly a queue to get through immigration. Got stamped and went to change my money, I then couldn't find where my bag was meant to be at. So thought it was too early so went and looked around the duty free shops. Then thought I'd better check again so I did and realised my flight said it was from New York but the same flight number as my flight from Lima. So no wonder why I missed it! Went to get it then noticed one of the staff piling bags on a trolley and my bag was on it! So quickly grabbed it, phew!
Booked a shuttle transfer to my hostel, pretty cheap.
Went to check in, couldn't understand the woman so she then fingerspelt using ASL! Realised my name hadn't been booked in! :/ but luckily they had room. Was meant to be in a 4 bed dorm but there weren't any available so moved to a 5 bed dorm instead which was cheaper, only £8!
Went out to explore Santiago. Brought a map with me but I didn't want to really stand out as a tourist by constantly getting the map out so decided to ditch it and just wander around. My map skills aren't all that good anyway so it probably wouldn't have made a difference lol! There was so much building work being done so no good photo opportunities really! Don't think much of it, maybe I'll change my mind tomorrow as I'm hoping to go on a walking tour before getting my flight to Easter Island in the evening.
It's so different from Peru. People have iPhones and use them in the streets without worrying about it getting pinched and people seem a lot more respectable.
Found it so difficult to find a decent restaurant, as I wanted to try Chilean food and wine. I got so frustrated so I just gave up and went into McDonalds lol! Not good! Tomorrow lunchtime I will make sure I find somewhere nice! Have done my research this evening so hopefully there'll be no walking around in circles :p

Molly Haha McDonalds, nothing can beat that when you're in need for some quick food after a while looking!! :P Hope you find somewhere that you can try some Chilean food and 'wine' - I for one, think you are becoming an alcoholic! :P xxx
