Today we took a trip back in time! We went on a class field trip to Sovereign Hill, a re-make of an 1850's Australian gold mine town. It was a lot of fun, and we were able to pack our day full of old-time excitement. There wasn't a stop on the map that we missed, so I'll just run down the list of the 40 different sights we saw:
goldfields store, the blacksmith, the printer, sweet shop, grocer, post office, jeweller, Chinese goldfields, Apothecaries' Hall (pill rolling, herbal remedies and goldfierlds medicine), saddlery, theatre, confectionery factory, glad smelting works, drapery store, tinsmith, candle works, wheelwright and coachbuilder, Hope Bakery, and the stables. I hope you all loved the special Aussie spelling used for some of those terms :)
On top of those we also did some events, and saw some shows. We were able to pan for gold and we went to the 1800s "bowling alley." We saw a show on main street, watched the redcoat soliders who did a musket firing, and watched some sweet making at the confectionery factory. Another great Australian class trip!!! I'm eagerly awaiting the next one! And John enjoyed the day so much he gave us tomorrow off (haha, and we didn't have class yesterday either). Monday is actually the last official day of our literature course, although we need to give presentations on Tuesday. You can tell that we've been working super hard these past three weeks ;)
