Saturday 3rd November
Bleary eyed we got picked up to head off into the jungle again. My arms felt much better so I was confident I'd enjoy today. Anyway there's always the safety harness to lean on!
There was only another 2 girls in the van so again I felt great that we'd lucked in on group size. We drove for about an hour and a half towards a remote jungle village & the location for our "Jungle Flight". We met the team there & got kitted up in our harnesses. Although I had done something similar at Go Ape I knew this would be different. Especially when I was handed the sketchy wooden stick as a brake!! Sy and I were a bit nervous as we headed down to our 1st station.
These rubber trees were massive and most of the platforms were at 50 metres up from the ground!! After an initial demonstration off we went zip lining from tree to tree through the jungle. Unlike Go Ape where you do your own clipping on and off, the guides took care of everything for us, leaving us free to just enjoy! It was a great buzz, the 2 other girls had picked a different plan so it was just Sy & I & the 2 guides, perfect.
We did 32 platforms, 22 zip lines, 4 Abseils. The guides took great pleasure as they're in control of the speed you abseil, unsettling me by letting me drop fast towards the floor than catching me at the last minute. Those who have seen the video on Sy's page will have heard the scream.....so embarrassing.
Some of them you had to use the brake to slow yourself down but there was always another guy on the other side & padding on the trees to stop you bumping into the tree! Some zip lines Sy & I could go together as a double line or sometimes me & the guide would jump off at the same time. The guide got a great video whilst following Sy on the best one. It was the 300m zip line that went from one side of the jungle over a valley to the other, the view was breathtaking from up there. Looking down you realise you're up higher than the trees from the valley below. Completely mind blowing but worth it. They're in the process of building a 1km line, shame that wasnt done in time as I'd have loved to have done that!!
We then had a walk through the canopy uphill to some more platforms. That nearly killed me as it was hot & uphill, my favourite. Gave my legs a perfect workout to compliment the arm workout from the kayaking!!!
The guides were great at pointing out snakes & insects along the route as well as trees & flowers. We continued zip lining & abseiling to the end where we were met with a 3 course lunch. Much needed after burning all those calories! Back in the van and back at the hostel by about 12:30.
Jeab, the hostel manager nearly had a heart attack as we showed her the video. She said she could never bring herself to zip line or go trekking but was happy to investigate the cooking courses!!
We chilled for the afternoon & headed out to the Saturday market for the evening. Managed to avoid buying anything other than a coconut water inside a bamboo cane!
