Hello!!
We said goodbye to Bangkok & caught the train up to Ayutthaya. At 14 baht each it worked out about 30p. At first we couldn't get a seat as it was so busy but a few locals budged up so we could squeeze half a butt cheek onto the chair. The train jostled as people selling snacks & drinks moved down the aisles.
It was only 90 minutes to get to Ayutthaya. The first hour was lovely watching the world go by. Unfortunately for us an Aussie accosted us which under any other circumstances we wouldn't mind but he definitely rubbed Sy & I up the wrong way. He was pissed, rude and well, he was horrible. He grabbed the locals physically & thought he was being funny. Making any Thai raise their voice is hard to do but was making women shriek & cower when he grabbed them by both shoulders. The other passengers on the train were concerned but didn't want to confront him. We didn't either & I felt very conscious that they thought he was our friend. With a few eye rolls, hand gestures & half sentances they could see he wasnt someone we knew & he was annoying us as much as them!
The place we're staying in is right on the river with a big temple just the other side. Beautiful as the sunsets.
Today we went on an elephant ride around the temples, mostly in a state of ruin but it was a beautiful way to see them. Stopping at the market we picked up a few essentials. We tried a local delicacy like candy floss wrapped up in a green pancake! Random but yummy. I also had an ice lolly, well
I thought it was but when it melted it was actually a frozen jelly! Nice though. We did decline the fried fish skin, wasnt quite in the mood for that!!
The shade was a welcome relief from the midday sun on the palace grounds so stopped to relax there before exploring more temples & a beer stop!
Tomorrow is us back movin again further up the country as we head to Sukothai.
