Friday 2nd November
I had never been so grateful for the concept of activity day, rest day as today i needed it more than ever. i could barely move my arms to do simple tasks so we ate, drank, read, edited photos and generally just relaxed in the local area. We knew we had to be up mega early for tomorrows activity but wanted to check out the night bazaar. En route i stopped at a pharmacy and picked up some tiger rub and got that working on my arms. I was worried i wouldnt be able to to do the next day as that involved arms too!!
Luckily that got to work pretty quickly and my muscles felt much better.
Walking to the nightmarket we were there a little early so found somewhere for dinner and had food as the stalls went up. We allowed ourself a night of shopping to ship home but were still fairly restrained!
After dinner we happened to walk past a Belgian bar. I don't think I've ever seen Sy so excited at the prospect that he might be able to have a Hoegaarden!! We sat down and people watched & he enjoyed every last drop of his drink!!
I had visited here before, 10 years ago nearly and wow has it changed. What was a smaller area of stalls and rickety bars has been relaced with 3 main covered areas with inbuilt units for the shops. Stalls lining the roads and food markets with permanent kitchens. In the last of the covered areas we found most of the bars but it is a world away from what is was before and some of it for the better. Unfortunately the bar Gwen & i had drunk a night away in all those years ago was no longer there. Most of the ladyboys were no longer there, just a handful of cabaret showgirl/boys. The bars with questionable clientale were no longer there, this was a good thing i thought as seeing a western man with a young thai girl or boy wasn't pleasant the first time round. But it lacked the atmosphere that was there all those years ago, however, the stalls were better as we bought a box worth of things ready to post home.
We headed home and set the alarm clocks for 5:30am, seriously we seem to be setting the alarm clocks more than we ever wanted to it seems. Oh well, i'm sure it'll be worth it!!
