The breakfast (especially the European version) was just ridicilous compared to its 5$ pricetag; two pieces of hard, dried white French bread with one piece of butter& two pieces of marmelade. A little pot of tea (with 1 teabag), or 1 cup of coffee. The Asian version had fried noodles with chicken (f.ex), cabbage, onions, and that's it. Would be worth about 2$, but certainly not 5! But that all, unless you go to Kratie for breakfast.
So...we decided to go to Kratie for the other night and check out. Had their boat to took us to Kratie. And we got ourselves a room from the Oudom Sambat hotel at the riverfront for 25$ and an A/C, and clean sheets, much more ok than 55$ for the Sala Koh Trong/Rajabori villas.
So we had made a good decision!
..Got our bags to the room and went to have a beer at the Red Sun Falling, the only western ownes restaurant in town, and to ask some guestions about cars to Sen Monorom etc.
Well, we got not many answers, so we walked straight to the taxi station to negotiate a car with ok price for ourselves. The hotel guy had said 150$ (which is basically a robbery and a joke). With some bargaining and asking around we got ourselves a car&driver hired for 80$, a young guy with a Camry who also spoke pretty good English.
That sorted out, we hired ourselves a tuktuk to take us to see the dolphins. It took a bit longer than we haf expected, but then we got to the dolphin boat harbour. It costs 9$/person (if you have less than 3 people), but you'll get your own boat to take you to see the rare Irrawaddy dolphins!
So we took off to our 60-90 mins trip to the Mekong, so we got our Mekong boat trip after all and with some exrta dolphins, so I'd call it a good deal! ;)
The boat took us to the watching spot and tere we were, watching to the water, and after a while, there they were! :D They weren't very close to boat(s), (there were 2 other boats besides us), but from time to time they came to the top of the water and you could see them, more or less of them, depending on the luck. :)
But I did get a short video from them (downloaded it into my fb -site already!).
Came back to Kratie then for a dinner, first at a local guesthouse eatery, whic food was good in taste, but the chicken "meat" quality was bad (no surprise there, bones and all were in it). That didn't got our whole hunger aeay, so we went to eat more to the Red Sun Falling. Had chicken curry and french fries ('cause for some reason Inkust HAD to get them). They were ok.
We walked around the little town, but there really wasn't much more in it. The dolphins are "the thing" in here. We have a car to take us to Sen Monorom at ten tomorrow morning, so after dinner we just went to the hotel and to bed.
