Our second morning at elephant hills began with a beautifully cooked breakfast at 8:00am, much to Jason (the kiwis) dismay! we all had to pack our bags and board the bus that would then take us to the rainforest camp! on the way we stopped at a very stinky Thai market, we had 20 minutes here, ill admit 5 would he been plenty, watching a Thai lady chop up live fish on a stall next to knitwear wasn't exactly our cup of tea! although there were yummy pancake things on sale! we headed on towards the rainforest camp, which is situated on a flooded Dam (still not entirely sure how it was created, we just keep saying manmade!) we stopped off at a view spot above the Dam where our guide 'number 1' really came into his own and began jumping like a little frog for photographs! we then took a 30 minute Long boat ride to the luxury floating camp! very cool! we had lunch and then began an afternoon of pretty intense kayaking! together me and Sophie were spectacular, we are seriously considering Rio 2016! the kayak was quite intense, the rain was torrential and we looked like drowned rats! we saw lots of monkeys in the trees though and found large snails (which Jason cooked for tea!) suddenly number 1 took us further into the forest down a small river like passage way to... a deadend!? we were told to exit our kayaks and head to find the tigers, we later realised this was just to collect a camera that films activity, but due to a collapsed pathway we had to turn around (Brenda, the Dutch couple) was not amused, it was this moment I realised my sunglasses had gone, horror, myself and number 1 quickly searched but no such luck! I hope in 5 years time to hear on the news the story of a monkey found wearing chanels! due to nightfall quickly approaching we headed back to the camp instead of going to see the waterfall (Brenda was pleased!)
A late night tour was suggested after dinner, we boarded the long boat (which broke down every few minutes!) to go and see the wildlife! after breaking down for the 4th time I began to think we should turn around, moving further away from the camp, but no, we kept on going every time the engine kicked in! We saw birds! Matt (the Manx) was very amusing, he decided, just as the boat had stopped to observe the birds to pretend to fart loudly, his wife was appalled and Sophie cried with laughter! child!
Today we went and visited the limestone cliffs where we could swim, but due to the reasonably tricky climb back onto the boat all of us girls opted out of this, instead we watched Matt float in his life jacket for 15 minutes!
After yet another amazing feast at our floating campsite we had to leave and head for koh samui...
We got the ferry across from Surat Thani then got on a battered old truck to find a hotel in Chaweng. the driver threw our bags on the roof, thankfully they were still there when we got off!! Found another palace to stay in...laundry day tomorrow!
