Friday morning we went for breakfast, Grace had a continental breakfast which consisted of done pineapple and watermelon, tea, juice and 3 slices of toast. I had a Thai breakfast which was fruit, tea and juice followed by a massive bowl of rice soup. We hopped in a taxi to take us to lamai, to the swing in particular where we'd been recommended to stay. we found the swing bar. it wasn't as exciting as hoped. by swing bar I mean a bar with swings, not a swingers bar!! we checked in to a room across the road, another bargain at 480baht a night. it smells hideously of sweet corn though but a good bit of fanning seems to shift it!! on our way here we spotted an Indian restaurant promoting a meal deal for 200baht. having decided to be a bit more budget conscious we went back there. the curry tasted like carrot and coriander soup! the naan breads however we're amazing. they were more like pancakes than bread, rob,you can find me a recipe thank you please!
We headed back to the swing bar for the 'fire beach party'. the set up was pretty cool, similar to ark bar in Chaweng, the atmosphere not so much!! it was fun for 5 minutes but the novelty soon wore off so we left to seek entertainment elsewhere.
At the bikini bar we ordered some cocktails, graces arrived in a small, maybe even miniature, wine glass. not amused, grace informed the waiter who then made her a much bigger one, probably full of spit!! A bit later on the bartenders invited us to play pool, they didn't hate us that much then! I can't believe how awful grace is at pool, must be what comes of having 3 sisters and no brothers! They also gave us some free Chang (which we found out today is 7.4% ...explains a lot!) After many games of pool the families of the bar owners came after closing. fuelled with Chang and sex on the beach we chatted to the families and children who were all lovely. they taught us some new Thai phrases and let us sample fried (in batter) banana which was yum. Graces communication got louder and slower, a true Brit! when we decided it was time to go to bed, we were presented with a bill. brilliant. so much for all those 'free' drinks. cheeky b****** had been writing it all down. not falling for that one again!! We did attempt to pay but could only scrape together 90baht between us, we agreed to come back at pay in the morning.
Venturing out in to the daylight later than we shall admit we headed back to the bar, they looked pleased to see us but made no mention of our unexpected tab...so we carried on walking. In desperate need of stodge we spotted a big picture of a burger, the Irish bar was our saviour. I the bar was a group of kiwis who seemed well oiled and bought us a Chang to have with our lunch. joy. whilst watching a game of kiwi rugby we all chatted, until, gold...we spied tins of Stowford press in the bars fridge! the kiwis couldn't understand our delight so bought some cans, they weren't very impressed. Harry (potter) described it as a breakfast drink for an alcoholic. only an alcoholic would know this! at this point I might mention that they were all old enough to be our fathers. they suggested we go with them to their friends bar which was just a few doors down from our hotel. we jumped on the back of their mopeds for approximately 30seconds, I can't believe they actually bothered to hire bikes!! they told us good places to go and see whilst in New Zealand which was helpful. we said we would see them later at the women's Thai boxing match, this obviously depends on whether last weeks downton abbey has downloaded in time! two of the men have daughters our age and are here for 2weeks visiting their childhood friend Harry (potter) who now lives here. despite their age they were continuously pinching and poking eachother and trying to push the other off their chair. it dawned upon me that George and ollie will still be like this when they're grown up and we'll never have a quite tea time!
