Soooo we were going to make a note of our expenditure however after Saturday night, no can do!
Our chosen place for dinner had a compulsory deal on beer which we obviously thought was a great idea. After dinner we wondered up the street and found a travel agents so booked our overnight bus for the following evening, we also came across an amazing jewellery shop called Pink p****
As we wondered back towards our hotel we thought we ought to have another foot massage. spotting a massage parlour that was 20b cheaper than the previous evenings we thought we'd had an absolute steal...the 30p saving we made wasn't really worth it!
Afterwards we found a tailors for me to have a jacket made for my birthday. With the beer hitting home grace managed to communicate to the Thai man what we were after, 'MORE JACKET LESS COAT!' ...he suggested we meet him the following afternoon!
We stopped at a bar near our hotel for 1mojito...or so we thought. We met 2welsh boys who had just landed so we declared ourselves Bangkok experts and took them under our wing. error.
3mojitos, 2beers, a gin bucket and some sambucca later we found our way home via a Thai gig house which resembled a cave. we were the only non-Thai ppl in there.
We got woken up at 11.30 by reception reminding us that we had to check out by mid day. Poor grace got an eye full as I awoke to find myself on top of the sheets in just my undies. after a frantic search I found my pjs neatly folder under my pillow!! we're still not sure where the crisps and melted chocolate bars came from :-/
I'm sure you can imagine, I spent the whole of the next day feeling very sorry for myself. We went back to the tailors to get measured, the finished article will be ready on 3rd nov when we pass through Bangkok.
After vegetating by the pool we decided to do some shopping before we left. We both bought anklets. we're slightly concerned that grace is swelling up as the lady making them had to make an extension for hers, then she couldn't get her hand in the pringle tube!
At 6pm we caught out bus to Surat Thani. it took nearly 12hours but we managed to sleep most the way. very grateful for the aircon and blankets...not so much the blaring music at 5.30am to get everyone off the bus!! We were supposed to get a transfer from Surat Thani to Elephant Hills Resort however this wasn't to be until 8.30. so we emailed the resort to let them know we would make our own way there. they didn't get the message in time. oops!
We were met at the resort by a Thai guide, I asked what his name was, he said 'I am number one'. cheap thrills!!!
There are 3 other couples here with us, after lunch we went on a canoe trip down the river, stopping half way for a camp fire and coffee. We saw a MASSIVE lizard, some frogs with really golden eyes, a mango (?) snake and a beautiful bright blue bird.
After canoeing we went to the elephant reserve. we each had a basket to fill with bamboo canes, cucumber, pumper, watermelon, pineapple and bananas to feed the elephants with. they eat 250kg of food per day!! We then washed the elephants using coconut fibres as scrubbers. there was a 10 month old elephant too which was playing football, very cute!!
This evening we had a dance performance from so local school children, a cooking demonstration (phad Thai noodles) followed by dinner.
today's been a looooooong day, should sleep well tonight!!
