Hi from sunny Sicily!!! Arrived here last night after an epic 13 hours train journey (our longest) through much of the south of Italy. Though tiring, it was gorgeous. When we got to the 'toe' of Italy they broke the train in two and put us on a ferry for the 40 minute ride to Messina. The sun was just setting over Sicily at the time and it was so beautiful!!! It was 9.45pm when we arrived in Catania - our B&B was literally over the road and 100 mts down a street so, iPad in hand with directions, we walked out of the station. This young lady came up to us and said "Mr David from Australia?!!!" "I am Leesha, I have come to greet you!!!" It blew us away - a lovely touch. Our old, but comfy room has a view across the railway lines to the ocean. It's a couple of flights of stairs up but easily doable with our limited luggage. Thought it might be noisy but not a prob so far.
Am finding Italian breakfasts a bit tricky. I'm not fond of croissants, which are always available, and then there's lots of sweet cakes, muffins and tarts!!! Fortunately David had some muesli in his bag so we had that with a bit of yoghurt. The muffin I thought had fruit in had chocolate bits!! Am hanging out for a poached egg!!!
Having a lazy day today - might take the train down to check out Syracuse. Will do a 4wd tour of Mt Etna tomorrow or the next day.
